Re: Josh Dowling Designs
hey josh that cruiser you're building yourself looks very nice .. got a touch of the shred sled about it.. can you post some more pics?? I would like one 5'10 x 19.5 x 2.5 with a nice flyer ( or wing you might call it) ... tri / quad set up..tell me more about it
Re: Josh Dowling Designs
Had one session so far (farkin spring) - 3-4 ft ne wind bumps. Still reserving judgement (it went farking unreal but I need that new board stoke to wear off to get an objective assessment). Definitely a new sensation, it felt really 'lively' in turns ( a pretty shite explanation/description but the feeling was hard to quantify), and I can't wait for the next healthy swell.speedneedle wrote:Hey Quangers, you been getting waves on yours yet?
I'm up for a new one myself ! Far too long I procrastinated...
The Rocker Shark will cater to my new fondness for Donuts at 7' x 21 x 2 5/8...

Quangers - So far so good - I'd be vicariously enjoying a sesh at Potholes - if you don't know it, find it!
Bring on winter...
Bohdi - Yeah, I figured out how to do wings without cutting into the wood of the rail...here's a couple of clearer shots -
Its to be a bigger back fin with glass-on siders. Widow-maker stylee. The idea is to bring the sweet-spot closer to my backfoot, customised for my narrow stance, so there's less to drag around behind me in turns - Loosen up the 7' x 21' bigness with vee and a break in the rail line - for turns mid-face in the bowly pocket.
Similar to what I talked about with your quad-love but no drifties on the late take-offs.
I put it this way somewhere else - the wing like a phantom tail, a pointy bit closer to your foot, the actual tail kept neutral because its so round.
And stupidly light, just because i can.

Hey Quangers the reward will be when surf it!
Here's Wingnuts Sawnoff, loading up... Needs deck art yet - Was it to be green/naturalish wingy?

Hey Josh,
Yeah something organic/earthy looking is the best description I can come up with...not sure if that helps?
Once again Josh the board looks beautiful, you are a true artist.

Hey SDC - Yep, my own board is racing ahead of a couple of orders at the mo!
But I did hug a tree - got into wingnut's spray today...
Looks kinda vaginal somehow, which I like.
Just needs a polish wingy, and its done...

Cool! The beaches of sunny Perth are unlikely to be a testing ground for us though. Will find some juice when I get home.

Ll'o - I've never been to Perth but yeah, its notoriously piss-weak
Notice how every capital city other than Sydney has some damnable geographic feature blocking the swell? (Darwin does'nt count, Darwin never counted...)
Hoping the board gets a run further south...
The Little Wing - 5'9 x 19 x 2 3/8 for Mick in Stockton -

Re: Josh Dowling Designs
Hey Guard,
Stoked to be receiving your enthusiasm for my stuff...
The basic structure of my boards and TL2 is similar - however theirs don't shirk on glass due to a pressure molding process which allows more glass to be wet out with minimum resin. This and the Rohacell - white skins, means stiffer than mine with Dcell, the grey stuff you see in the shape shots.
In the stretch in particular, if it has those deck-rail slots, that'll stiffen it loads.
So I can tune the flex also - smaller boards and guys who are not known to trash them are advised to go with a light glass schedule. Some of them have as little as half the standard PU shop board glass.
I've also recently opted to go with Balsa again in the rails precisely because it gives a little more than Pawlonia - not as stiff.
That said, the Pawlonia-skinned boards are stiffer, and yet the guys on them are all for it. A preference thing. I put a little more tail rocker in the all-wood ones to keep it loose.
So yes, in future by all means we can arrange for me to get the Stretch to me for a measure-up and tweaks for a custom. And your price guess is right-on.
I ran the question about Darwin by one of my Ol' timer buddies...he "bonked a chick" there for a while but did'nt see waves. Dunno, I say your'e probably right...certain conditions...
