Chad Ryan is still with Skipp and he does a nice board. He surfs really good as well so he would be a good bet. Up at Fairy Meadow you'll find Phil Byrne or Froggy at Byrne are really good as well.
The only thing I could say about Carabines is that Mick's a top bloke and they do good glass jobs.
I'd be going to see Phil Byrne.

never tried em but some good lookin shapes come out of skipp.I've had a couple of Byrne and Nichol and rate both highly.Nico's boards are as good as any I've tried and i hear he has some nice templates from Hawaii, worth a look if you can track him down.
Carrabine do a good heavy glass job

matt my nugget is a carabine, though its not your average board.

I have a skipp Hybrid shaped by Frank Latta, tis simply the best short(er) board I have ever ridden (but that aint saying much seeing as Ive only been back riding em for about 12-18months) I dunno if Ive fluked it but I'm tempted to go back to him for an upgrade when the time comes just on the basis of how good this board goes.

how high is his board count? how many more years of feedback? how much more experimentation? do you think that every 20-30 something year old shaper is gifted and has revolutionary ideas, or do you reckon that most of the hard work when it comes to shape development has been done and all the younguns do these days is tweak and revisit what has already been created so far? maybe a fella with a plethora of years of experience might just know a thing or two? (PS I wouldnt have a clue, I know bugger all about the guy, but I certainly dont see age as barrier to good board design)

Ive never met the guy puuri, so all I have to go off is the board, and the board goes very very well.

If your after a board for indo try and get a hold of Terry "Richo" Richardson.
last time i was down there he had sold his shop and was making boards for another surf shop (extreme?). not sure what he is up to now but he could surf ulus better than most so i reckon he could get you something that could do the job.

Skipp (Chad) and Byrne (Froggy not Phil) are 2 of the oldest names in the Aussie surfboard game. Either will not let you down and in my opinion way better options than Richo or Carabine for what your looking for.
We also have Dylans and GMC's down at the shop if you want local.

Just please do me a favour and don't go cheap like a Drew Anderson which are everywhere down here.

Frank's an old Cronulla surfer / shaper and was among the best surfers in the area in his day. He's up at Scotts Head last time I heard. I've had at least half a dozen off him and they've all been good.
He would be getting around 60 now and last I saw him he was still surfing pretty good.
Agree with Longbum there's heaps of Drew Andersons boards around here.

I have had a couple of skipps (chads ryans) boards they go well but have snapped them all so have a few of the guys
Im on byrnes now and they go well

What do you guys think of the Byrne TC Plus 6'5" x 18&3/4" x 2&5/8"? I was thinking of getting one for surfing more powerful waves than just the usual beach breaks.
