Is it worth taking boards to Thailand?
Hi crew, I'm wondering if it's worth taking a board over to Thailand?
Has anybody got any decent waves over there? I reserched a bit on the net but there very odinary results? Nothing much over 3'.
Never been there before so there is plenty of touring to do if the answers a nope.
Angleing for around March sometime.
Cheers & Thanks
Nikko

Leave you board at home - went to Thailand last year (July) complete non-surfing holiday - got to keep the wife happy.
Plenty of shopping in Bangkok - and some of the best sights and amazing countryside in the world.
Nice and relaxing in Koh Samui - BUT NO SURF - even in Phuket - not worth it

Slurpin Thailand
Nikko ol cock. Don't listen to these fairies.Thailand does have surf. Been there twice. The surf is all on the andaman sea side. Phiket has plenty of very good waves usually during monsoon season. Ive surfed some o the islands and there are some excellent breaks out there. Go rent yaself one o dem boats with the V8 engines and massive propellers that you dip into the water yaself. A few slabs o beer and a few mates and off ya go. Dunno if March is too early, but I think it might be. Most o the people on the islands are muslim so no hanky panky. Best ta bring yar own chick.

Seems the smart thing to do is rent your boards and your chicks eh?

I think "No" is the short answer
There's no surf on the Gulf of Thailand side - and the Andaman Sea side only gets waves at a few beaches in Phuket, but its dependent on monsoons, and you'd be lucky if it got over 2 ft, anyway
The only evidence I've seen of waves in Thailand worth packing a board for was some photos taken on offshore reefs - but the indication was that they were at least a 3 hour boat-ride from Phuket

Matey, I dont rely on 'pics'! Ive been there twice. The waves aint huge thats for sure. Well shaped little buggers tho. As i said monsoon season is best, and ya need a boat. Ya don't go there with the sole intention of surfin tho, of course there are way better places. Its a good place ta go in a group with some chicks. Plenty o shopping, elephants on the beach, good food, waves, cheap, and so on. I'II look out some pics and if I can find 'em send them to ya nikko. I'm sure that you will call what ya see 'waves'. But, ya gotta go in monsoon season.
