Think I’ve got all the symptoms so I’m off to the Doc tomorrow. I saw a few references to people who have had an op.

Both groins and umbilical.

One of the rarest of rare hernias ... often referred to as a HTF

Herniated Typing Finger.

Groin area. Swells up a bit. It’s been playing up a bit the last couple of weeks so it got my attention. Prior to that it wasn’t that obvious amongst the various other aches and pains us old codgers get. Initially thought it was a reaction to the Metformin I started taking.

Booked in to see a specialist but it’s not till May. Looks like we will be putting off our trip to the Gold Coast. No point driving all that way if I can’t surf. Plus might get a cancellation. Had a shingles shot at the doc yesterday so I generally feel like shite.

You should still be able to surf with a hernia (maybe a little discomfort). In 2016 I went under the knife to repair not one, but three hernias, and I took a couple of weeks off just prior to the procedure to go and surf my brains out, seeing as there can be a lengthy wait afterwards.

Wear some firm fitting undies under your boardies or wetty.

Yeah, I thought about putting a wetty on. Yesterday it hurt like Fcuk after the doc prodded it. If it had of continued like that I would have gone to emergency as advised. Seems generally okay today but as I said I feel like shite from the shingles jab. I actually found another Hernia Thread in the archives. Thanks for the advice. Surprised how many people have had surgery for it.

I had my first one done in Brisbane in about 1990.
Done on a Friday.
Had no discussion with the doc about going back to surfing so I just did. The following Saturday. 8 days. 😳 Pretty sure that was the timing.
Next was in Sydney and he stopped me surfing for a couple of weeks. That one used the mesh repair which has apparently caused all sorts of problems. I think they use a different mesh now.
The umbilical one was up here and out of the water for a month.

Ironically the scary tissue from that repa6made access to my prostate a few years later more difficult.
Not a real problem. Just added about 45 minutes to the planned op time.

Yeah, after bladder surgery you wonder what any malfunction down there is. Guess I kind of ignored it. The trouble is it’s not going to really go away without surgery as far as I can tell.

I guess I was lucky.
The first one was there for years before I asked about it.
Not painful just a bulge in the groin.
When the second one happened it was the same.

The umbilical one was interesting though. I've had this little bubble on the side of the belly button for as long as I can remember. The doc in Sydney even offered to repair when he did the groin but I didn't bother.

Apparently I had it after birth. You could see the 4 fine stitch marks all through my life. But I guess it just found a weak spot in there somewhere. Never a problem except it was very sensitive to touch.

Anyway all good now. Touch wood 🪵

Yeah. As well as fellow Realsurfers there’s about three people I’m regularly in contact with around here. I think I may have aggravated it trying to paddle and pop up a few times. This one aches but also has a real burning sensation around the base of my dick sometimes. Might be strangling the vein or something. If it was just sticking out I probably wouldn’t have even noticed it.

Well, now that I have identified what the Fcuk is going on I’m looking for solutions. Since I’ve retired I’m going Commando most of the time. Just boardies and a t shirt. May have to review this. Missus can’t believe how much less washing there is. Particularly since Junior moved out.

Note to self. Avoid going to Bondi.
