Inguinal hernia, anyone had surgery?

So my doc reckons I have one. I'm in no pain, there's no lump, and I'm walking around and doing most things except lifting heavy weights. I did feel a slight bulge for half a second the other day. I sneezed and felt something, but only for a second. I then tensed my abs and poked around and only when I was extremely tensed, like heavy deadlift tense, did I feel a small bulge n my right side, just above the old fella on the right side. As soon as the tension relaxed even a small bit, it was gone.

If I brace my abs normally there's nothing so I'm not sure what's going on. Ultrasound and CT not 100% clear. See specialist on Monday. Really don't want any more fcccking surgery. It fkcking sucks

I think I may have one just under a rib. Same though, can't find it, just hurts like fcuk putting on/taking off booties. Been happening for about 3 years, but haven't had it checked out. If it was inguinal, I probably would 'cause I suspect it will get worse sooner. The smaller the rupture, the less likely a surgical revision

The groin, yeah?
I've had both done. One in about 1990, the other about 12 years later.
First was sewn up. The second had a piece of mesh inserted. Both overnight stays. After the first, done on a Friday, I surfed 8 days later. Never told the doc. After the second, doc told me to wait 2 weeks, which I did.
Had an umbilical hernia repair last year. 6 weeks out of the water. Day surgery but that was when I found out I was allergic to droperidol which is one component of the anesthetic they give you.

Be guided by the doc. I went with both groin hernias for years without surgery and never really took it easy in any way.

Cheers guys. Yeah Trev, groin. I don't really like the idea of surgery, it's very minor. I do lift weights though, and it really helps my knee strength so would like to keep doing that, so if dr recommends it I'll do the surgery.

Have heard of people claiming the mesh can cause awkwardness/discomfort long term. Can you feel your mesh etc?

I've had one done. But mine got to a stage where it hurt if I was standing too long. Couldn't run. If it's not bad and you want to lift weights, just keep pressure on it. Tight jocks, can put something down em so the elastic holds against em. See what you can work out anyway.

Ok cheers. My doc reckons even though it's minor I should get it fixed, so that it doesn't end up a major issue. I don't want to have surgery but if o don't, and it got worse down the track I'd be pissed off for not fixing it while it was minor.

I probably had mine for 10-15 years before I got it fixed. I didn't do anything to manage it, I reckon if you do keep pressure on it when you're doing anything strenuous, it will be fine.

Booked in for keyhole early next month. Being a small one and keyhole, surgeon reckons I'll be fine to lift weights and be back at work by 2-3 weeks. Sweet

Did you surf with it? Been avoiding lower leg stuff in the gym but doing upper body stuff, feels ok, hardly notice it on day to day activities. Sex doesn't seem to make it play up either. 2 weeks til the surgery and am kind of avoiding surfing but I suppose a cruisy ride in some mush burgers can't hurt?

Yep, for years.
Wetty gave it some pressure. I think on indo trips in boardies it became a bit uncomfortable sometimes but wasn't a deal breaker. I think I noticed it more walking around in boardies, freeballing.
In the later stages before surgery (I went public wait list) I sometimes wore speedos under my boardies after I moved to warmer waters.

I had both mine for years before surgery.
Even rebuilt the front yard terraces at Castle Hill with 8 x 4 hardwood sleepers. By myself. The bulges never really grew over the years after I first noticed them.

Is yours direct or indirect?
I assume indirect as much more common.

What's the difference ? I can't feel mine, no bulge unless I really brace my abs like I'm about to do a heavy deadlift, then there's a small bulge but it goes away when I relax. I can brace my abs normally and can't feel it

Had it this arvo, keyhole. In the room now, bit sore, not agony though. No painkillers just pain when I try to move around. Normal by all accounts.

The nurse did a thorough job shaving me, the bottom of my stomach, top of my leg and all my pubes. The conversation while this was taking place was informal and light. What should be the topic of conversation when you're naked on a hospital bed while a male nurse runs a hair trimmer over your pubes? Hopefully I was casual, but not too casual.

My room has a view of some of the 5 islands, so not all bad.

Wish I got keyhole. No choice on public.
