Shingles in older age has been linked to A/d too, and there was a study done in (cough) Wales recently which found a possible benefit of the shingles vaccine in halting the spread of amyloid plaque caused neurofibrillary tangles in the brain.
The study was done in Stanford. They just used our databank.

I had shingles about 14 years ago which I reckon was triggered by work stress that was putting me on the edge of a nervous breakdown.

Cluster was on my temple which meant I had a continuous 24/7 migraine that felt like a truck driving out of my head for 10 or so days. Worst pain I have ever felt, was on morphine pain killers which I struggled (and mostly failed) to keep down as they make me nauseous. Ended up taking 4 weeks off work

Was still getting a tingling sensation in the area 12 months later as well.

The tapentadol and grapefruit juice chasers are working a treat for pain management. And the doxylamine succinate is doing wonders for undisturbed sleep. Really freaky dreams but, woke up 11am after a semi nightmare after dreaming about being trapped in some middle-class suburban hell, changing baby nappies, fixing flat tyres, and hanging Banksy art prints

Nasty, looks like mine when I had my right ear done nearly 2 years ago. It's healed up well but the pain was intense and recovery was slow

Apparently the ears are extremely sensitive.
I had an SCC cut out a few years ago
Anaesthetist refused to do it under local anaesthetic.

But it healed quickly, including skin graft.

More on ears. But hearing related

I have severe high frequency hearing loss.
And tinnitus.

Got hearing aids 10 years ago (next month as it turns out).
I went with an expensive option offset a bit by being a pensioner.
Still the best part of $5,000 though.

For a variety of reasons I've never been very happy with them. The group I dealt with have been fine. Sort of. But over the last two or three years they've become a bit hassling in their contact with me.
And despite my telling them several times how poor business practice it is to phone but not leave a message if I don't answer, they keep doing it.

I went looking for an independent audiologist. Not easy as it turns out.
Only one this side of Maroochydore. I didn't look any further north tbh.
The one I found is in the next suburb and within walking distance.

Had an initial consultation and test last Tuesday.
Confirmed my HF loss as severe.
More importantly, my word recognition scored at less than 50%. This means in a conversation I'm hearing clearly just one word in two which makes following a conversation pretty haphazard.

Recommendation.was simple.
Forget about expensive ones. Regardless of the cost I won't get any better results than from the government paid, free ones.
Even these are now Bluetooth which makes a big difference in certain situations.

Plus, and she was apologetic about the cost, a Partnermike.
This is a little device which your wife can wear on her collar and it projects her voice clearly by Bluetooth straight into my hearing aids. Effective distance about 25 metres.

Or I can put it in front of the TV and hear it clearly. Or if you're at a table with a small group of friends, just put it in the middle of the table and except if everyone is talking at once, you can hear pretty clearly.

Picked it all up today and wonder of wonders, works great.
She also changed me from moulded ear pieces to little buds which are much more comfortable in my ears.

The Partnermike is on a free month's trial so I haven't paid anything yet.

Time will tell but I'm happier with my hearing than I have been for years.

Anyone else here have poor hearing?
