It's a grim comment on yourself when you can bust out that you'd let a hot girl piss on you and everyone just sorta goes "Well of course you would"

It's getting as stale as a glass of warm piss on a sunny Queensland afternoon.

wooo 17k ski downwind, Long Reef to Palm Beach. Light SSW turning flat S. With masters paddlers so stayed with them at 70% from Long Reef to Newport Reef, then turned it up and dropped 'em. Crazy runs! Ski humming and sucking down into the troughs, then lifting and skimming, following its nose toward Bangalley Head. No visible sea life. 20 minutes without another human.

Kracka carbon vaccuum laminate. It's exy and it'll take months to get one but it's the best. The other end would be a Bennett Robustlite off the rack, about half the price of the Kracka with a performance and feel that suits the price point.

More Petulanity: morning's swim squad

200 easy

100 kick 100 drill 100 build four times through (this was the worst bit btw)

easy aerobic set: 200 on 3.30, 2x 100 on 1.40, 4 x 50 on 1.00, three times through. Easy stuff, you just roll the 200 out about 2.35 then cruise the 100s and 50s. Ben Player led the lane, Benny is still reeling from all his 30 second barrels in Namibia last week.

200 wash off.

ha ha more useless swim set information! no paddling this week except in the pursuit of waves. But Weds morning in the pool!

300 easy

100 kick 100 drill 100 distance per stroke four times through, these "warmups" are torturing me

threshold set:

6 x 50 on 1.00, 2 x 100 on 2.00, 100 easy re-set, three times through

So the mission here is to use the 50s to set your stroke, then swim the 2 x 100s close to or on aerobic threshold, pushing a tiny bit quicker each set, so I went 1.18/1.17/1.14/1.13/1.10/1.09

It was shit! Felt like wet cement. Too much surfing yesterday probably.

Lil Tommy got back in the pool this morning, he is having to make an effort not to rush himself back from the knee thing.

And Friday morning in the pool!! This is the last one I'll post, I promise. Unless something really fcuken stupid pops up.

200 easy
4 x 100 drill/swim, 4 x 50 build

30 x 50 on 1.20, one dps, one fast, alternating. So you cruise up, then swim back close to max but not quite. Trying to hit the same time each time on the fast 50. Very much a mind set, you've really got to forget the ones you've still gotta do, set a time on the first quick 50 and stay with it. It's supposed to be an effort sprint set but it's really a great technical set, like trying to go fast with less effort. You tend to do anything "best" at around 93/94% effort, any more effort and the technique falls apart and you end up going slower or about the same pace while expending more energy. These quick 50s are at a bit under 90% so the whole way you're ironing out sloppiness and getting everything more and more timed and clean. I went 31.5 on the first and 30.5 on the last, felt great the whole way.

200 wash off.

So took the supergrommet board squad out on the flat (ie Pittwater) to wake them up for what is to come

For seven weeks we've been doing an intro course to longer racing boards 'cause they're coming out of nippers. Some are a year ahead, some a year behind.

We did a six minute warm-up then 6 x 6mins broken efforts, the first three were 1min on 1min off, then 2mins on 1 min off. The last three were continuous, ie six minutes solid pace paddling.

Then four mins warmdown and straight into a 4k run. Wow they were impressed by the run. "This is torture," muttered Annalise, 13, about a k into it. I laughed: "Yes! It is! Torture!"

They know I care, but they also know I don't give a shit.

Life is gonna suck for these kids for the next eight weeks, they get folded into the senior Gold training squad on Saturday mornings. The senior squad goes out and hammers 16k on the ski in 75 mins then comes back and runs 2k then does 6-7k on the board, then runs hills for 40mins. The supergrommets get 15mins board play then join the seniors for the board and run legs. They'll get dropped on the board but picked up on the return leg - we do Newport-Avalon return or Newport-Mona Vale return. They will hate some of it, get stoked, get angry, be exhausted. In six months when they've all won three or four gold medals at the state champs, they won't remeber any of this.

I hope the gang appreciate what you're doing for them Nick, although they probably can't appreciate it fully now.
I'm sure it's gratifying but I keep thinking of my own early years as a nipper, cadet and junior and how much I owe one particular person for everything he put in. At the time he was my tormentor, too young to feel any other way.
