Re: Kettlebells
yeah I check the connections and only do it outside in the garage.
just completed 4 weeks, not missed a workout. really feeling the extra hip drive in my surfing.
will do a 6 week cycle then move to something else.
pretty pumped on the kettlebells as a bank for buck to improve strength and improve surfing though. 9/10

Re: Kettlebells
Add some deep front squats with them with a hold at the bottom for something different Steve. We do this for boxing conditioning work and i comfortably outlast the kids 20yrs younger than me on these. Good hip stretch toosteve shearer wrote:yeah I check the connections and only do it outside in the garage.

Re: Kettlebells
the strength I'm feeling in my surfing, the hip drive and the torque increase is pretty stupendous

Re: Kettlebells
what the fcuk do you need cardio for?
for surfing, thats the worst thing you can do.
it's fine if you're training for tough mudders or half marathons.

hahaha, i watched that Pavel yoo-toob last night.
No, what you need is conditioning.
I breakdown the physical requirements of surfing into strength, conditioning and skill set.
Strength is the easiest of those to improve. And leads to the best improvement in performance for a given skill set.
I really struggle to see how improving surfing conditioning can be done except by going surfing. Time spent doing cardio is time wasted. Better to go for a surf. 3 half hour surfs a week will do more to improve surfing conditioning than any amount of running, cycling or swimming.
Skillset is hard to budge. Usually baked in by middle 20's. Can be shifted but only as a creative process. ie, you need to imagine yourself surfing better and then figure out how to do that.
Surfing more just tends to bake in further the skillset status quo.
