Been getting a nice strong ache in my lower leg, same time every day, around 6-8pm while I'm sitting on the lounge. More uncomfortable than painful. Hopefully it's just a cold weather thing.

The physio has taped my patella, he thinks because my VMO is a bit weak it may be causing my knee to track offline a bit. Seems to be a bit more free when taped up but I dunno.

I've got 22 different strengthening excercises to do everyday, 3-5 sets each, twice a day.Takes me a good hour. Plus some bending excercise.

Be careful. Could be a blood clot. Sounds very similar to my blood clot symptoms.

Hey Odda, it has been 2 months today. I was told to do bugger all except for stirring the pot for 6 weeks and now it it time to get it moving up and forward. Cause I had my bicep tendon cut and reattached to the humorous I am restricted with some movements until they make sure it has attached completely. Impingement sounds like what I feel as I seem to have a block that just makes it really hard to get the shoulder to move past certain positions. It would be nice to have a pain killing injection just to be pain free for a bit and feel normal. I find myself comparing my right shoulder to my let and geez the left is working flawlessly whilst the right feels like its autistic brother.

Ok cheers don, I'll mention that to the physio this week. Don't need a blood clot that's for sure.

Spoon, I know the feeling. I'm in love with my left leg, it's my most favourite body part, strong as an ox, bends all the way freely and with no problem, while my right is like a sickly scrawny lumpy stiff piece a junk at the moment :). Well, not quite, but compared to the right it is.

I'm potentially 6 weeks away from being fully fit for work. I'm feeling pretty good and I've been walking without thinking about it. Can't quite believe i could be back to doing what I used to before this reasonably soon. Keen to surf, but not gunna think about it til I'm much stronger. Well, I'll try not to

I was contemplating going for a surf tomorrow...well that was until I got up from the floor weight bearing on my fecked knee fully bent and I felt this intense excruitiating pain like someone was stabbing me in the side of the knee with a knife. Couldn't even walk up the stairs then to put the kids to bed!!!!

So no surfing for me pre surgery unfortunately!!!

My sympathy to you Spoon. Sounds awful. And Beery. Not sure how I would cope with a long term recovery period.

Blood clot still fecking there. Surgery delayed indefinitely now. Priority is to sort out the blood clot. With 8 weeks left before my boat leaves the doc it's looking like my surfari will just be a dream now!!

Fecking very down today. Didn't go back to work this arvo. Couldn't face telling everyone the bad news again. Just over it all!!!

Saw the surgeon yesterday for a follow up and got told to ease up on some of the exercises as it is becoming inflamed and to just work on getting the arm above my head. Not allowed to start any kind of water exercises yet (hoping to breaststroke soon) as I still don't have enough range. Took a whole 4 mins followed by a see you in four weeks. :-?

That's pretty serious, Don.
I know you're bummed about missing your boat trip but it is sounding like you might have identified an underlying issue that could have had much worse consequences.
Even if you have a remarkable recovery I'd be a bit wary on long flights...better to have a sore leg than cut it off.

Yeah I know Boo. Doc said if I did go on the trip they'd put me on the injections for the entire time. But people do fly after clots. I've spoken to a few people who are on Warafin for the rest of their lives and they fly.

It's just super depressing after planing a trip for so long and getting super excited by it to now be faced with the reality of waving my 8 other mates good bye on the boat!!! I was pretty devasted yesterday and it was a very dark day for me.

Yep, my surgeon is the same. I'm and out in 5 mins haha. They must rake it in huh?!. Can't say they don't put in the hours though.

Not good mate, but you'll get there, and yeah the clot is a bit more serious than the knee issue at the moment.

I started going back to my chiro the other week. He's a surfer also, and when I mentioned my knee issues he reckoned I'd be back in the water before Christmas easily. Pretty stoked at that point, but then he asked if I had a longboard. Looks like I might have to spend a few months on it before I can go back to my other boards. Not upset really, but I was keen as to get back on my little JD's :).

Finally some fecking good news!!!

Saw the vascular specialist today. She wasn't too concerned about the clot and gave me the thumbs up for knee surgery. So I'm booked in for knee surgery on Thursday. Just hope the knee Dr chops out the meniscus now (4-6 week recovery) rather than repairs it (3 mths+ recovery) as I've got 7 weeks until my boat trip.

Will still be on blood thinners post surgery for at least 3 mths, although vascular Dr wasn't keen for me to be on blood thinners surfing reef on my boat trip so suggested I stop taking them after my flight over and recommence on my return flight.

Have to wear those sexy compression stockings too!!!

Thanks feck it's winter!!!

Well he chopped out my meniscus and cleaned up the back of me knee yesterday. Walking on it this morning and the Dr is still confident of a 4-6wk recovery. Boat departs in 7 weeks.

Good news mate, keep it moving and get on that boat!!!

I'm starting to get some muscles back in my leg. Starting to be able to go downstairs. Another month I think I'll be back at work.

However, the hardware is giving me trouble bending past 125 degrees or so. Not so much pain, it just physically can't get past it. I think for most things it won't matter but for things like running and surfing, well, I think it's going to make it harder than it could be. Still possible, and I'm still aiming to get wet in or by summer. I'll probably be in my longboard for a while, though late next year I plan on taking the wire out. Not a lot of info on it, but from what I can gather, taking it out can give more range of motion, and a bit more flexibility in the knee.

I'm also worried about leaving it in, then having to get it taken out when I'm older. Lot easier to recover at mid 30's than mid 50's.

I managed a few hiit cycles on a bike yesterday, so I'm finally able to do some cardio. Feel like a slug, and was gasping like a fat fkukk hahah

Good news, Don.
good luck.

Beerfan I know kneecap and elbow wiring are completely different processes but a friend who had her elbow wired up after falling off a cliff had the wires taken out 2 years later and it made a huge difference
