Schits getting real now. My brace is opened to 90deg, but I'm really only at about 75. So, my new excercise is sitting on 2 chairs, so my feet are off the ground. Then, I tie some rope around my ankle, feed it under the chairs and up over my shoulder, and, well, I yank on the rope as hard as I can stand to force it to bend. It ain't fun, but it's slowly working, slowly. The physio's are hanging to start getting serious, but want to get the go ahead from the surgeon. I see him on Monday.

Rolling the sleeves up, and might have to get some dreaded painkillers for some of the sessions. I'm no hard man, but I'm looking forward to some pain and hard graft.

Feel mentally strong though, even though the slowness of recovery is killing me.

Now at 80, new excercise working good. Almost able to get a full revolution on the recumbent bike. Hopefully end of next week.

Looks like I'm joining the over 40's injury thread!!!!

After being pole axed into the sand earlier this week, knees first, turns out I have a meniscus tear. How bad, not sure yet, only got verbals from the doctor over the phone. Going to get the full results next week and likely being referred to a knee specialist. Fark it, and I was supposed to be going snowboarding in August and I am booked on my Indo surfari in Sept!!!!

Surgeon said I can get rid of the brace. Bit odd, as my leg is still a chicken leg, and I've got just under 90deg of movement but I'm pretty happy. Also said the physio's can inflict the most heinous pain available from now on, as the bone is pretty much 100% ( minus a few small pieces :) )

I don't need to see him again, unless the wire in my knee gives me problems with range of motion.

6 weeks today. Start physio on Thursday which should be good as I have fcuk all comfortable movement as I have had to to do bugger all so it is a bit frozen.
Fell over last sunday, slipped on a camillia bud and used the arm to stretch for the fall, been in a bit of pain since which is a worry. This cold snap is not helping either.
Al this is gold. "She didn't realise I was fairly high and spent much of the evening trying to figure out why a purple and orange cow wanted me to climb a tree."

Get into the physio mate, it sucks but is worth it. It's amazing how your body will just assume a part of your body is stuffed so just let's it freeze up haha.

Here’s my official prognosis:

“Extensive longitudinal tear of the body/posterior horn/posterior root attachment of the medial meniscus with a large displaced meniscal fragment within the intercondylar notch, in keeping with a bucket handle tear”.

Seeing the knee specialist on Friday but GP has recommended surgery. As to when and how long to recovery, well that’s anyone’s guess!!! 3 mths til my OS surfari departure!!!!!

Not fecking happy Jan!!!

If you have surgery you'll more than likely be in a straight splint for at least 4-6 weeks. If you do, whatever you do, ask your specialist or doc if you can do anything to prevent muscle wastage. Muscle wastage is absolutely fkukked, your leg muscles will disappear very quick, and it's hard to get back quickly. On top of a knee that doesn't want to bend it's a slow recovery.

Good luck with it

Cheers BF. It's only keyhole surgery so I'm hoping I won't need to be in a brace for 4-6 weeks. I had a car accident once and split open my knee. Was in a knee brace for no mor than 10 days whilstthe stitches healed and upon removal of the brace I couldn't even lift my leg off the table....so yes muscle wastage is my biggest concern if I need to wear a brace for any length of time!!!!

Will find out more details from the knee specialist Friday arvo.

Knee is surprisingly good this morning. Almost walking normally on it!!!

Keyhole? Lucky bugger. I imagine it'll be a reasonably quick recovery then.

I had keyhole on my shoulder, amazing how much he did. Physio was not that bad. Got my arm from 70-90 degrees out in an hour. Got a heap of exercises to do but feeling good. Good luck with the knee. Don't be surprise if they get going straight away after surgery.

Right booked in for surgery next Wed. Have to have it to at least remove bucket tear fragment which is in the wrong spot. Recovery time is unknown until he goes in there and looks at it. If he repairs it recovery is 3 mths!!! If he can't repair it and removes the torn meniscus the recovery is 4-6 weeks.

So touch and go and won't know recovery until after next wed. If its 3 mths he said I won't be able to surf until the trip!!!! Gonna be one unfit muthafecker if that's the case.

just swim with one of those beans between your legs so you can't kick. Try and do a 2 or 3 1.5km sesh's a week (work up to it, of course).

mega upper & cardio workout ... you'll be fitter than if you just surf.

I'm fkkukking hanging to do some kind of cardio, and I reckon I'm good enough to do that. Doubt I'll do that far but it'd be good to get in and do something.

yeah, just start out doing what you can, resting on laps.

You'll work up to a k in no time. Then for more cardio you can mix up your breathing. Like try and swim 50 without taking a breath.

Your cardio and shoulders will be primed for when you finally can surf again. Good luck mate
