Why can snowboarders switch stance like there's nothing to it? For most surfers it feels retarded.

Lack of moving water? It’s actually pretty easy. Same with skateboarding. I’m pretty confident going switch on a snowboard or skateboard, but can’t surf switch to save my life.

The boards and stance are bidirectional.

If you watch closely though they don't often turn or change edge while riding switch, just aim at the next takeoff point with a fairly flat board.

Powder riding is harder switch, for sure.
