When you consider that most surfers who've been there rate JBay as one of the best waves in the world, the spot has a lot of hype to live up to.
I left so blissed out I can hardly remember the long flight home.
Huge onshore screamers across Supers, glassy shoulder-high walls without end down The Point ...
It's expensive to get to, but so cheap once you're there.
Like Muslims and Mecca, every surfer must make the pilgrimage there at least once in their life.

Totally agree, surfed J Bay back in the 70s and still vividly remember flyin down Supers, paddlin out from around the back and straight into a classic J Bay barrel and emerging way down the line still DRY, hooking up with a tall Aussie called "Emu" and the two of us inside the barrel on the same wave. Best wave I've surfed anywhere in the world, despite the cold and mussel encrusted rocks. Must get back.
