Samoa April

Post by carpetman » Wed Mar 06, 2013 1:20 pm

Hi All,

Already got plenty of info and read all the previous forum topics re Samoa but was wondering if anyone had any new stories of the surf that time of year?

Heading over there for a few weeks at the beginning of April and looking for some excitement to get me through a month of work before we leave.

I went last year in early may. surf guides at the retreat on savaii mentioned that they had scored some epic waves a few weeks prior to me arriving. i reckon you could definitely be in with a chance of scoring good waves

march april may are he prime months. april is getting late for the north side. winds are generally light, and mornings glass.
good chance for south swells and epic waves. where you staying? going to savaii? watch my vid, its a compliation of a few trips. never seemed to get that much footage of the best waves, cause thats when i was surfing. some pics i got off another guy on one trip as well. if you doing the trip without guides, i can help you out with places to stay, hire cars etc.

Thanks Brendo,

Already returned and got some good waves. Exactly as you say, morning glass but didn't take long for the wind to come up. Still spots to surf when it's up though. Some pretty heavy waves, not used to that being from Vicco.

Nice vid!

Here's a couple of snaps from the trip.

You picked them both Brendo. The pics make coconuts look a lot better than it was, it's a shifty bugger. Stayed on the south coast the whole time, not much exploring unfortunately. Stayed at Sa'moana, they were in the middle of the rebuild after the cyclone so it was just us!

did they get fully wiped out? they got lucky with the tsunami. they only did a heap of work there a few yrs back. dont hear much good things about the owners. did brent and clarke run the boat trips? they are good guys.
i hear u bout cocos, always looks good, but shifts around alot, and bombs rear up real quick. where else did u surf? i reckon posales is the jewel in the crown, so mechanical and fun when its on.

Yeah, they got hit pretty bad. The only thing not needing to much work was the surf house. No Brent or Clarke & not sure about the owners, they seemed pretty nice, I think I recall something about them being newish owners?

Just surfed outer siumu, coconuts, pebbles & sales. Sales really is an awesome wave. Consistent and mechanical, something the other waves didn't seem to have, and pretty easy compared to pebbles.

Brent left Samoana a while back now (before mid 2011). He has/had the 2 fales just back up the road from Samoana. His house is opposite them. Hopefully they didn't get hit. Great guy to stay with

i heard him an clarke were doing the boats for samoana as no one would work for them. they were shit payers, and then ripped one guide off a large sum after he had really given them a boost in the surfspots/local knowledge stakes as hed surfed/lived there for yrs. if samoana got wiped out, i wouldnt imagine they would of escaped damage

Anyone heading to Tahiti or Samoa in the next week or so may wish to consider taking a rather large board as the LWT stalls just east of NZ over the coming week, sending back to back solid groundswells up into the South Pacific.

Drop-in at 9.20. :-? The last thing you want on a wave like that.

Someone is gonna get killed in the channel!!
I think some of the chicks on board think they're going to watch the tennis or something until some of those rogue sets come in. REminds me of an old Oils song with the lyric -
" You better look out, watch out, beware
There's no safety here"
