Maldives surf trip...

Post by Balts » Sun Jun 12, 2011 5:57 pm

Hi guys,

Going to Maldives next month. The trip is as follow:

* 7 Nights on the Manta
* 3 Nights at Lohifushi Island Resort

Has anyone done something similar? Taking 3 boards with me to hopefully cover all conditions.

Never done a surf charter before so pretty pumped!

Also.... closer to departure date it would be great if anyone could crystal ball a surf forecast for me! :D

Yeah it was fantastic - thanks for asking!
Would love to put a couple of pics up... but don't know how to do it :(

Got the best waves of my life. The crew on the Manta are fantastic! Got us pretty uncrowded waves everyday. Surf from 3 - 6ft over the whole trip.

Hating being back in Victoria now though....

Is Lohi's a zoo in the surf or OK?
Considering taking my wife there for our island of doing nothing much, and I can surf

We found lohis in the surf ok.... pick your times - we got it pretty uncrowded.

The boats are another thing all together though. Up to about 20 surfers each time. When you turn up at another spot it is instant crowd in the water. This was hard to take after our time on the manta with just 5 of us!

Had a fair few fun waves out at Lohis with just us. Hit it early (while Euros are eating breakfast and sleeping), then surf again when they get out.

Worst part of lohis is the ramp to get in and out - saw a fair bit of carnage on those rocks :D

Cheers, Mark. Yeah, I know it's the best time and now it looks like 10 night on the Handhu leaving either 13th or 27th August. Male and Central Atolls. Keen as for it now.

The women are coming so it's only 6 surfers on board. Anyone been on the Handhu?

13-24 August. Start at Laamu, central atolls then north to Male atolls. If it's on in the central atolls, we can avoid much of the Males until the last day or 2. Warm water barrels. Bliss

Heres a vid of lohis from last yrs trip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hp6U2ga-gLM
Been going there for 4 yrs with my mrs, she loves the place. You will get good waves anytime from feb to nov. I go in the end of sept-oct and have always scored. the most indo like wave is Cokes (20min) and the other rights are great too (sultans-Jails-Ninja's) Chickens is my fave wave, a long and sectiony left that gets more swell than most and will barrel in 4ft plus. Always used World Surfaris and never had a drama.

True but not quite. The resort island is a pretty nice place to hang out and she likes to sit and talk to people from all over the world and has made some great friends. So many that we are doing a round the world air ticket trip next year and staying at all their places for free. Stop overs include San Diego, Hawaii, Canary islands, Portugal, France to name a few. There are a few little shops on Hudhuranfushi, Jewelers, general store, hairdressers, day spa etc. You can visit the main island on a day trip (30mins by boat)I havn't been but they recon its a pretty strange mix of old and new-rich/poor etc. There is also a little village at cokes, so named because the island has the coke factory on it! It has some local shops and schools etc which are interesting in themselves. But mainly my mrs just likes tropical islands lagoons not having to anything except laze around and work on her tan, snorkel, swim with manta rays and dolphins, Oh and check out hot surfer dudes like us. The food on the island is pretty good and most tastes are well catered for, We are going to stay for a few nights in the over water bungalows (5star), that gets you into the sunset restuarant which has as a good a menu as I have ever had anywhere all in the price. Its amazing how the free alchohol thing wears thin though and I end up buying decent beers and wines, there is only so much Lion beer and crappy south african wine I can drink. Oh, and I wouldnt go in the pool if you paid me, its usually full of fat smelly pommys and krouts who thing its cool to lie around like beached whales and do laugh at beer farts underwater. Why would you with perfect crystal clear lagoons surrounding the island.
