unfortunately i have a new job and responsibilities and a big credit card debt from shouting him g land last time. he on the other hand is a nomad looking to work as a surf guide over there.
no bull$hit, matt was living with locals eating dried fish they left in the sun.
he could live there forever on his strict budget of dried fish, bed bugs and vodka flavoured alcohol.
i hope to meet up with him in september for g land barrels and some gt fishing if he hasn't left my fishing rod on a bus to jakarta.

Nah okuma salina. its only a $200 or something reel but its guaranteed for life and pretty tough solid reel. smooth but tough drag too.
i told matty if he is going to be smoked of all his line, to lock up the drag hold on and let the knot snap at the fish end. i told him what ever you do don't let go of the rod.
we practised poppering the big 15-25cm poppers on Newcastle harbour showing him how to bloop bloop slow or speed it up like you would for kingies.
matt knows his knots and has been studying marine knots for his skipper courses and ive been trying to teach him all i know about kingies and hope gt's are similar.
i gave him rolls of 20lb, 50lb and 100lb flourocarbon leaders so that should cover all bases.
matts pretty good at fishing for small fish anyway so it wont take him long.

any tips steve?

Looks like you should get a nice fun pulse of new swell on Wed arvo/Thurs morning your time, although winds still look dodgy for the west coast......may have to head over to the other side to score some cleaner righthanders Matt!!!

hows the fishing going?
i know its been pumping its noggin off but surely you have had a chance to cast those poppers into the shoulder whitewash and pull out a big GT?
go out on the put put boat with your squid fisherman mate and flick a popper around.

how is my GT rod and reel going? has anyone used it at all?
