I saw last night a closed down resort in myoko area is re opening next winter. looks good! got some above tree line bowls and is the first resort
in that area to get unloaded on so it would be looking at 18m+ a yr. think ill do a day trip. ended up booking 5 nights hakuba and 6 in myoko. one night
in toyko. under 1200 for 2 of us. that would be about 4 nights in jindy atm with 8cm base....lol

Re: General snow stuff
hey tonks, just saw your post. I booked myself, always do. much much cheaper. I went through booking.com for half and some online jap travel co for the other half. japan is very easy to get around. don't be put off by not speaking Japanese. where are you looking at going and when? a lot of places are booked out or filling fast. over the 2 weeks where I couldn't decide a few places sold out. also where are you going and how many of you? morino lodge has a dorm room basically in a really good place. about 50 bucks a night while other guests are paying about 200 but u use all the same facilities.
if you don't have a proper powder board invest in one. I almost did last trip then thought ill just set my bindings right back, as that works here. was ok up to knee deep trouble was there was waist to chest in places! I bought a rome powder division moon tail 154 few months back on sale. cant wait to ride it as its gunna be more of a surf style board, back foot about 200mm from tail then a big wide spoon type nose.
Re: General snow stuff
morino has a lodge at hukuba in the wadano forest pretty much straight in from the gondola, about 10min walk.they have a dorm with 2 singles and one with 2 bunks. I tried for the 2 bedder in early feb but was taken. they said I could take 2 beds in the bunk room but need to pay for 4 beds if I want to myself. im travelling with a 10yr old girl so tht wasn't on. they also have a lodge at myoko with indoor/outdoor onsen about 10 min walk to lifts and bit less to main street.
Re: General snow stuff
Tonks, I've got contacts in nozawa, and a few other places.
Re: General snow stuff
just spent 5 days at perisher. the amount of snow is insane. lodges with huge parts of them buried. had to lend guys next door a shovel as no one was in the lodge for only 2 days mid storm last week. the door was only just visible, took an hr to dig out. rock garden at bluecow doesn't have any rocks. they are buried. chairs were being dug out for days, crowds off the clock on the weekend, like mid august. but if you are thinking of a late dash well worth it!!
Re: General snow stuff
Spent the last week down there. A small amount of fresh on Saturday last week and then 10cm on Tuesday. Had Guthega to myself pretty much all day. Classic spring after that, hard and firm 1st thing then softening up nicely. Had a lift assisted backcountry day on the Wednesday with a leisurely skin out and a tootle up another hill before calling it a day. Still heaps of snow.brendo wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2017 5:19 pmjust spent 5 days at perisher. the amount of snow is insane. lodges with huge parts of them buried. had to lend guys next door a shovel as no one was in the lodge for only 2 days mid storm last week. the door was only just visible, took an hr to dig out. rock garden at bluecow doesn't have any rocks. they are buried. chairs were being dug out for days, crowds off the clock on the weekend, like mid august. but if you are thinking of a late dash well worth it!!

Re: General snow stuff
^^@ brendo: went off the back of eyre up the top down the to Betts Creek drainage.skinned eastish for a decent whack following the Creek and I went up the Mt Wheatley area after that but was heavy going in the sun on the way back - it didn't compare to the 1st run which was really lovey. Was on my own so was pretty cautious. Scoped out a few more lines a few days later on a snow shoes as well that I have filed away.
