Board Transport
Hope someone out there has some suggestions. Im looking at getting a 6'11 step up sent across to me in WA from Brissy. Im probably looking at doing it via Australia Post and flying it to Perth to pick up there from airport, though that would be a major hassle to get it with the bus. Has anyone got any experience in this area of shipping boards across Oz. If so, who did they use.
Im not sure if it is cost effective yet, im hoping its not to bad as would love to use it in WA for when I do go surfing there. Any suggestions guys. Maybe it would be easier to get it shipped to Geraldton and pick up from there as getting bus around wont be so restrictive.

Re: Board Transport
I don't think Australia Post will do it.
You don't live in Queensland anymore digger, find a local shaper in WA. They are just as good as the east coast shapers and will be more tuned in to west coast waves.

You should have spoken to Gravelle when you were in Penong, he would know, he ships boards all over.
Or you could have got him to make you one, around $650 for basic. Step-up is his bread and butter.

I've had Geoff McCoy ship one from Byron to Kalbarri for me. Think he couriered it and it arrived by truck.

Re: Board Transport
Spoke to JD and am investigating that option. I can't go past my shaper who has made more boards than I've eaten meals. When you have a shaper you know and trust totally its very hard to let go. His experience is second to none

Australia post do it, and I bet it is cheaper than you think...they do it on weight, has nothing to do with size and shape...its pretty cheap
Re: Board Transport

Re: Board Transport
sorry have no idea about links...but I sold a board about a year ago on gumtree...sent it to Wollongong...I had a courier quote for about 60 bucks. I took it to the post office and I am sure it cost me less than 20. Two years ago I sent four surfboards all in one package to PNG. I think that weighed about 25kg and it cost me...cant remember, but it was over 200.crustt wrote:Put a link where it says on the website, they only do small parcels I am sure, please prove me wrong as I will get all my boards posted. :-DAlmighty God wrote:Australia post do it, and I bet it is cheaper than you think...they do it on weight, has nothing to do with size and shape...its pretty cheap

Re: Board Transport
Not sure if that is right Fong. What I need more than anything right now is a better understanding of what is going on inside my boys head and how I can be a better father to him. Stuff surfing. My attitude to catching a wave has changed so dramatically that im almost happy to not surf again if my boy needs medical help that takes me inland then that is all I will be thinking about. At 49 I have had so many magical moments in the surf that I could stop and be forever happy and blessed that I am a surfer. I always will be a surfer, wether I am landlocked, unable to surf, to old to surf, or in the water on a solo surf. I was a surfer first and I will be a surfer last.fongss wrote:Im good fora $50 To help with ya transport drama......right now i think u need a new board under your arm.more than anything.if anyone else can chip in maybe a r.s fundraiser can help a realsurfer go surfing
I have no transport drama's so to speak (just a lack of no how to get my baby here, though Ive got a better idea now how to achieve that) more so a family drama that is now more important than anything else.
I so much appreciate the offer though mate. You have been a great friend and Im looking forward to one day surfing with ya again if we are both blessed to be in the water at the same place.
In a week I will know what is happening and wether or not I ship her out. If I cant afford to get the beautiful stick to me then that is the cost of living the lifestyle I live and I must learn to live with that. Im not worried, more so Im blessed that I know the board is in a safe place waiting for me when I can get her, its just waiting there, not going anywhere, and she is calling me every second night telling me how many great waves we will share. I look at pictures of her every day, oh man I have a sickness, I know I do. LOL.....
Till then I am in automatic survival mode and Im not even going to look at options for a few days so I can concentrate on what is in front of me.

Your right, you can't get a surfboard through a letter box, God probably got it mixed up with a postal service on another planet.
