I've got a recently established compost heap in my yard that I'm willing to part with in exchange for these boards- your lawn looks in need of a feed....

I actually like the bottom one but do you think its repairable?
Its taken in quite a bit of water...
Its the easiest single fin i have to ride backhand and pretty smooth through turns.

I have a few other single fins aswell but i like them all..Its hard to get rid of them even if they are in bad shape.
hard to tell if the bottom one is fixable but top one sure looks ok, i have seen some pretty amazing restoration jobs but mite cost $200 plus(or d.i.y for bugger all), got a few myself. my son and i ripped the glass off an old single and shaped an awesome little fishy thing for him. It was fun and taught him a lot about boards, he sprayed it and did a little shaping. Wish i took before photos and a few as we did the work, will next time, yeah definitely would do it again. Its great to give them another chance at life.... The metallica one looks ideal for a bit of a recycle job ??? both prob ok, have to be creative in what design you wish to make with limited options ...

The Metallica is a bit short and narrow in the tail...I would think about making a fish out of it though.

cheers
Go Onnn, do it...
The tail outline can pretty much stay the same, you just have to blend in the nose curves, we did ours from the wide point, 4' front of centre.take off a bit at the tail to give you the right tail width

guard wrote:Ok im thinking about it but ill go to swaylocks and read up on shaping.

Ive shaped a few bodyboards but no fishes etc before.

I also need a planer, sander and shaping bench... but I think ill do it..
Seeing as i expect it to be flat a lot over the next few months..
I think i will allow myself a long while..

Maybe a quad fish around 5'6.

How hard is glassing? Maybe just get it glassed at Skipp or Byrne.
just borrow a planer and get a shaping dvd, theres a few out there. Some makeshift stands, surform, a few blocks and some sandpaper and guaze and you are almost in business. I would get it glassed at a factory, its hard , toxic and messy, best of luck. Let us know how its going and love to see pics... as for the flat surf for the next few months, I dont think so due to a potential cyclone off central QLD at the moment and it was a solid 4 foot here yesterday (between byron and coffs ).

good choice of design, the quad fish are fun to ride and very popular at the moment, fin placement critical but...

Yeah that cyclone looks good. it looks like its gonna get quite solid up your way...Im starting to wonder if i should have gone up..But a few nice lefts around here should start working so its all good.
Maybe even be big enough for a certain reef or rivermouth down the coast too.

That wind looks a bit sus though.

I bet the pass gets a few good waves over the next week.

...I know theres nothing at your fault but im sort of :? this swell looks like its gonna finish up around the time my new board is arriving
I guess its always the way.

But a few people have commented on it saying they like the look of the outline and rocker.

Hope ya get some solid kegs...Happy new year.
It looks very nice sitting in my pool room and would go nicely in the 4 foot wedges I have been surfing the last 2 days... dont worry wouldnt do that to you. Wish there was a way to get it to you earlier but bloody xmas hols makes it impossible... yeah I like the outline too and it'll be one I will use again or something similar

That red single was actually pretty fun to ride and didnt go to bad in little tubes..Pity what happened to it.

The bottom one i deleted was actually one of clifs boards that he couldnt keep any more..So neither was really mine.. :?

However it was a joke..I dont think i will shape that metallica, i might have a better go from a fresh blank i think.
can i have it ?

guard wrote:Marcus isnt sure if this board is a collecters item..It could be One of the first Shanes ever made, it seems like the resin was painted on..

An older surfer told me it was a worthless pop out however this is a guy who bargains people down for old MP's etc before reselling them for a bunch.

If this board is one of the first shanes i think he still wants it the way it is, or cleaned up.

However personally i think the reshape would improve it somewhat and i would go for it myself.

You can send me the plan if ya want, i am interested.
probably should contact Shane and then go from there...
