Northern beaches rock jumps

Post by Hound » Wed Jan 24, 2007 1:14 pm

I really couldn't believe how many kids were congrugating at the top of jump rock in Manly on sunday, almost put me off doing my usual double twist, pike to enter, but got the applause nonetheless (ie jumped, did something stupid and managed to split my lip, who knows how!)

Anyway, seems jumping from the rock is almost as popular as surfing (maybe due to the fancy new sign the council has put up advertising it, and calling it jump rock, tempting to first timers!) So I was wondering where all the other rock jumps are, I know about the 'deadly' warriewood blowhole, but are there others? I watched fins on fuel the other day bout Ozzie Wright, where him and his missus (ex?) jumped off a supposed 60ft, that looked very Sydney Basin-esk. any ideas?

I love Jump Rock. I go there during the summer. I usually dive but last season i tried a 1 & 1/2 off the top and over rotated. Tried it on the second one and face slapped. Ill complete a smooth one in the coming days me thinks.

Nothing beats jumping head first off the Rock, arms fully extended to your side... 8)

Oh i know! :o

There is this fresh water one deep in the bush that we went to on a School Camp. There is a tall water fall and on the other side there is an overhang with the the word: "JUMP  " painted in white. It was about 15-20m and deep but there are boulders in there.

To get there you get the ferry to the Basin and navigate through Orb spider bush for 6 hours.

p.s. This was 10 years ago, and i dont know how the drought has effected it.

There's a fantastic one in Lagos in Portugal, just off the town beach, you get a great audience and it must be around 35ft, high enough for me to brown the boardies. time it wrong and the low tide can bust you up bad, time it right and you get a load of pork'n'cheese hotties giving you a round of applause.

Try north Bilgola headland on a super high tide, there's a little undefined path up a ridge then a few platforms, each above another. Go the one you dare.
