Mornington Peninsula, Vic - Absolutely smoking today

Post by curly » Fri Jan 05, 2007 8:00 pm

For all those vicco surfers on the peninsula out there I hope you scored waves today.

The beachies all the way from Gunnamatta to Portsea have been sensational all day - 4 to 5 foot on the sets and pretty consistent. Crowds were light away from the main beaches.

What a day for the middle of summer. I had a look at Rye about 7pm and there were still heaps of lines and crew getting their wave count up.

Fingers crossed the swell holds into the morning.

Missed it bugger it. I was building a deck all day on my holidays, went down on Sunday morning and it was crap.

Gunna is usually around 3-5ft in the summer, in winter it can get pretty damn big.

Dude, no need to dot out the name of that beach, gotta be one of the most well known, along with 13th and Bells for being a swell magnet.

Great conditions again today on the beaches. Looks to be about 4ft with bombs to 5 or even 6ft along the Peninsula. Have mates down past Cape Otway reporting 6-8ft surf in the Johanna region. Offshore winds too.

The Rye pics by Matt Roberston that were with those ones above were really good too. One was WOTD. Was a pretty perfect day on Wednesday. My mates went out at the spot above, but said it was pretty sketchy. 7 guys camped down there but they were the only ones going out. Said it was 6-8ft breaking in about 2ft of water. A guy hurt is back out there pretty badly the previous week and had to be taken to hospital. It's definitely not a 'fun' wave!

That's not a good spot to be! Could get a nice wash over the inside rocks or over the exposed shelf! Do you tow in there Deadbolt or are you on a booger?
