i just watched a12 foot tiger pulled out of the nets off Av!
... a quick surf check at south Av carpark and there's a little grey trawler type vessel sitting 100 metres off the beach with a bloke in a teeny weeny tender just beside it ... he's grabbing at the shark net every now and then a fin bobs up.
20 minutes later they manage to release it and this BEAST leaps up and is on his merry way, seriously it was huge and literally 100m off the beach.
Apparently there was a dead hammerhead too
You would not believe how tiny the tender was that he was in ,one wack from the tail and he would've been a gonner, I guess they know what they're doing tho

The horse seems dead. You're very much alive. Unfortunately.smnmntl wrote:Wonder if it was one of the sharks that chased vortex out of the water that time??
Oh no, that's right... they were HAMMERHEAD sharks
cousteau, what was he in? A tender? like a tinny type thing? Saw Vic Hislop's museum up in Airlie, they had running videos going all day. This scene where he literally landed a 12ft shark alone in a 10ft tinny!! Nuts!

i think you are telling a bit of a white lie,who did you hear it was a 12ft tiger from, wrong time of year for them.. anyway i had a 2hr sesh this morning out there an yeah also saw that tender an trawler bout 300m off the beach but i guess i missed the moment when he dragged it out of the water(must of been a strong farker), they were taking an awefully long time i thought in the same spot, so you could just be right..

hey "who really cares" i'm no Jacques Cousteau haha but it was a very large shark and it was 100m off the beach, i was there for a good twenty minutes and saw it make good its escape, so tiger or not it was BIG!!!
Someone else asked about the tender yes a very small tinny, the bloke was leaning out one end and the other was out of the water, so bloody small, like one you would row out to your boat on[/quote]

just a friendly FYI - the nets' main purpose is to deter, not catch, sharks. although of course sharks are caught from time to time.
