I came to the early realisation that i get a sh*t load more waves when i paddle into a line up by myself.
Is it patience? Not having to impress your mates? You’re there because you love it? You're anonymous?
Just a passing thought! or possibly an

more freedom.
you catch a wave paddle over to your mate who is prossib in a bad spot.
you nd mate are close together so anywaves that would come directly to you come to both of you and there goes 1/2 ur waves

when my mates are there it motivates me to catch a bigger wave or go deeper, whereas i might slack off a bit otherwise

by yourself your not as much of a threat to the vibe of the lineup, so people don't go out of their way to snake and drop-in on you in order to intimidate you out of a sesh. even if you have good intentions, going out with a couple of mates will always ruffle some feather's.
especially on the "holiday" coast.

my good surfing mate doesnt make it too much anymore. ski instructing. doesnt bother me in the slightest. nothing better than surfing alone. and when there is a crowd, as has been said, ya dont shit people rolling up alone.

I'm normally alone, and yeah get more waves that way. I agree with whoever said it's because with a friend you're generally in the same spot so only get half the waves coming through.

Definately agree with the fact that surfing alone you get more waves but i reckon, for me anyway that when i surf with my mates i surf better as you are always pushed to surf harder and go for waves you might not go when on your own

i agree that ur mates push you further though ... but when with a mate hu is worse than you its almost impossible to improve alot in that sesh
