eye to eye

Post by Clif » Wed May 17, 2006 4:17 pm

surfed stanny park on tues morn. havin' a ball, then lost one - my eyeball that is. Board speared straight into right eye, blood everywhere, no sight. heavy drive to docs.

now eye specialist says we have to operate to remove blood and stuffto see if i can get vision back.

look like elephant man pirate. (had to but a patch me'hardys, arrrrrr)

so this is a warning - buy a noseguard! They're not for kooks, or maybe they are.

fingers crossed all goes well. get a bazza for me while i heal ya bastards.

Should get a stuffed parrot when you're up to going out to the pub/club etc. Chicks'll dig it (if your single that is)

That's heavy Clif, really sorry to hear it.

Similar thing happened to me only a couple of months ago except the board missed my eye by about a centimetre and speared into the top of my nose instead. Left a deep, sickeningly hollow gash and I had to go straight to the doctor and get 6 stitches. At the time I was extremely thankful it hadn't speared me in the eye.

Keep us posted.

Crap, good luck buddy. What with Hynd, there's already enough one-eyed surfers around

Another good surfer, Victor Levett of Queensie, is in similar strife right now, best wishes to ya both.

thats bloody heavy - good to see you can take a lighthearted view of it - but here's hoping that you get your sight back in it.

lost count of the number of time's I've had my board go 'that close' but just miss my face. really hope it turns out ok for you.

Yeah, best wishes for speedy and full recovery Clif. That is rather gruesome.

Was your eye hanging out of your head on the end of fleshy material or did it stay in the socket?

I've heard horrible stories of guys having to hold their eyeball in their hand while going to the docs, or trying to stuff it back in.

Eeekkkkk!

Without doubt that is one of my worst fears, Clif.

My board speared me in the upper arm yesterday and I'm now sporting a massive bruise. I copped a whack across the bridge of my nose from a foolish beginner that left a nasty cut about 10 days ago. If either one had been my eye... <shudder>

Hope you get your vision back, quick.

I don't think a nose-guard woulda helped much. The only thing that's going to stop that sort of injury is something like those Baartz sunglasses.

that's really bad to hear clif. losing an eye is probably the worst injury i can imagine, short of losing a limb.
im not going for another surf untill i buy a nose guard.

anyway look on the bright side (no pun intended), if you have to get a fake eye, at least you can freak out little kiddes when you get bored.
but you'll probably be sweet though
