How early will you go?
Hey guys,
I was wondering how early you'll go for the early? I've been away with mates who went at 4.30 at the end of the non-daylight savings period, probably not overly early (it was light)
And I was reading an article (by Nick Carrol I think) about a surf trip in Cali where he met people who get out at 4.30......get in at 2.30 (yes that's am folks)
And I got to wondering how early do you go? I tend to go with the sunlight, but I noticed last night with the full moon it was pretty light outside, which got me to thinking about the semi-night surf.
Whatya reckon, anyone coming for a surf with me Monday morning at 3??

I have made it my policy over many years of surfing to never go for the early unless I'm within walking distance of a seriously good point break and I'm on holidays
Most city breaks are too crowded to bother about the early unless you know its going to be good. I worry more about the right tide. Can't tell distance in twilight anyway
I usually find theres a gap between early crew and up all night stragglers anyway at most beaches. If it works for you great but missing the early has its advantages too
The main issue is going to work on time I find

I dont think SA is that worse then anywhere most other places. I think people think just because we had 4 attacks last year that this place is crowded with white pointers. With the amount of people out in the water and the amount of sharks out in our waters I wouldve thought there would be more attacks...

hmm..i tend to disagree.I think Sydney and QLD have a higher concentration of surfers on their beaches than SA.I think it has more to do with the prevalence of fishing in your state (why people go for a surf/dive in SA when a fishing comp is on is beyond me) and the population of great whites in the water.SAsurfers wrote:I dont think SA is that worse then anywhere most other places. That being said, you must have a set of titanium ones to paddle out that early in SA.
