John Brogden Gone - Ha ha!!!
John Brogden has finally revealed himself to be the racist buffoon that I always thought he was.
Good riddance to bad rubbish in my opinion.

buffoon maybe, but he shouldn't have resigned... i mean what a call!! hats off to the man, to get up and call your oponents wife a mailorder bride takes alot of spirit... i might even have voted for such a true blue aussie legend had he hung around to reap the rewards!! classic!! its almost as good as Darren Lockyer at the press conference when he said St George won the premiership with one Raper, imagine what the Bulldogs are going to do with 17!!

No Polls
No-one Vs No-one @ the next election?
What's wrong with mail order brides anyway, lots of people have them, even the odd hi-profile person/polli who needs to keep his "real preferences in the closet" - no not Burt Newton!
Refer to earlir thread that mentioned the house in Denison Rd Newtown NSW

Never confuse ambition with ability
Yes, but he also propositioned another journalist who was not a lifelong friend and was unknown to him at the time as a journalist - she was the one who did the damage (according to today's SMH).anchorman wrote:Lachlan Murdoch is gay... (seriously)
As for borgden pinching journos on the bum. The journo he did that too is a life long friend and was in jest. Tell me if you have never done that too a close female friend..
What evidence do you have of Lachlan's preferences ?

Brogden only got the gig because no one else wanted to waste time as opposition leader in an unwinnable State. He belonged to the coalitions liberal left '(wet ) faction - they don't typically get leadership roles, mainly because their ideology is confused - the whole working class roots and chardonnay socialist dogma is utterly unworkable.
Anologous to a non-catholic getting leadership of the Labour right faction!!!
I always found Brogden confusing because he never really manifested his liberal ideology and working class roots and didn't offer much in terms of vision. He also had the chance as a 36 year old to play the generational card more - i.e., target the babyboomer generation being the first in modern history to leave the forthcoming generation more impoverished than themselves.
He just didn't appear to have the political prescence or intellectual mongrel (probably an oxymoron when you think of the NSW Libs). Guess they don't foster this much in the private school system.
In the end he was sacrificed when Carr's departure made winning an election feasible. What Brogden did a month ago is nothing in political circles my friends. Of course we can all cry righteous indignation but Brogden's racist slur on Helena and misogynist activities have numerous equals in the activities of political figures on most sides of politics. Anyway, Brogden has a dubious record eg conflict of interest re consultancy fees that they could have got him on if they wanted.
Look for a bolter in terms of Leadership that might come out side the Parties improversished succession ranks - if you think Brogden was not up to it - fatty O'Farrell......
One thing I did observe was that he genuinely confronted his mistake and I respect his candour in holding himself accountable for his inappropriate behaviour.
In the end - he deserves a place in the line-up. Everyone can derail.

The real crime is that the fool couldn't manage 6 beers in a few hours. And they were Corona's.
And talking of racist buffoons .... Now, how to get rid of 'Honest John'? I can't see too many world leaders greeting a Maori this way .... Mind you, at least he didn't try and slip the tongue in.
Geez, what an embarrassment

Provo I agree with some of what you're saying but....The year is 2005, and he was at a journos gig. No excuses, that is his stage and he blew it. Do you smear yorself in fish oil, shove a mullet up your arse and paddle out at Cactus?
Wonder how his partner is feeling right now, knowing 'the family man' was doing a bit of extra-curricula research/fishing. How many times did he hook up?
I'm not defending the Redfern incident, but for mine, Brogden was playing the populous race card big time there and was just being inflammatory, where leadership and calm was needed. Ditto Macquarie fields, chasing cheap political points

Mad - I don't think Broggers ever really stood for much or if he did he was way out of his depth and was always vulnerable. I really don't believe he intentionally played any card (racial or otherwise) he was just derailed by his own indulgent and attention seeking predispositions. I think he genuinely thought it funny ,and while a problem in itself given his role at the time, a bigger problem was his inability to convincingly play the role with any genuine credibility. Hence my point - these incidents didn't bring him down, the Coalition decided it was time and executed at the first opportunity.
