Anything you can throw the boards in without rooting around. On the roof is an option with the boards. Gotta be able to sleep comfortably in it. Fast and economical. Impossible, yeah bugger economical.

Surprised not many got it into the old L200 Mitsubishi 4by4 van.
Its a 4 cyl goes anywhere with plenty of room and can take a hiding and has gutter rails on the roof for el cheapo roof racks.
Be able to pick on up for under $5000 in good nick fitted out as a camper van.

i drive a Nissan GQ Patrol, i put it on lpg so its cheap to run. drop the rear seats and i can fit 3 boards inside (including my 9,1 mal). 4wds make the best surf mobils, being able to drive on the beach (where permitted) makes searching for waves that much easier.
although its a good surf vehicle, it doesnt have the charector of the ol' kombi van.

I still kind of miss my old 89 Magna Wagon. It was such a tank but you could chuck all your junk in it and not give a stuff about salt water damage, sand or bashing into things. Plus it was as cheap as chips.
Your right though, Johnno about those 4x4 Vans. You still see them kicking around unlike old Taragos and most other vans of that vintage. An old bloke I know drove his all the`way to Cape York and its still going.
