Timothy Leary quote.

Post by phil osofer » Tue Jun 28, 2005 5:27 pm

I want to have film of a surfer moving along constantly right at the edge of the tube. That position is the metaphor of life to me, the highly conscious life. That you think of the tube as being the past, and I,m an evolutionary agent, and what I try to do is be at that point where you're going into the future, but you have to keep in touch with the past...that's where you get the power...and sure you're most helpless, but you also have the most precise control at that moment. And using the past... the past is pushing you forward, isn't it?

Check Radio National site for Sean Penn reading excerpts of Bob Dylan autobiography "Chronicles'.

This is the bomb man.

Timothy Leary's dead.
No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in.
Timothy Leary's dead.
No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in.
He'll fly his astral plane,
Takes you trips around the bay,
Brings you back the same day,
Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary.

Timothy Leary's dead.
No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in.
Timothy Leary's dead.
No, no, no, no, He's outside looking in.
He'll fly his astral plane,
Takes you trips around the bay,
Brings you back the same day,
Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary.

Along the coast you'll hear them boast
About a light they say that shines so clear.
So raise your glass, we'll drink a toast
To the little man who sells you thrills along the pier.

He'll take you up, he'll bring you down,
He'll plant your feet back firmly on the ground.
He flies so high, he swoops so low,
He knows exactly which way he's gonna go.
Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary.

He'll take you up, he'll bring you down,
He'll plant your feet back on the ground.
He'll fly so high, he'll swoop so low.
Timothy Leary.

He'll fly his astral plane.
He'll take you trips around the bay.
He'll bring you back the same day.
Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary.
Timothy Leary. Timothy Leary.
Timothy Leary.

Crappy song, silly man, but you know acid could be fun if you weren't one of the ones it sent nuts

I thought I had read that he only did DMT the once and got so freaked out about it that he didn't do it again, and stayed mainly with the acid and peyote etc.. If I remember I'll check the article as I still have it at home.

His quote is quite a good metaphor for life though.

Hay oldman....... I think he also did research work with the CIA for a while back then, so he was sort of into everything.

Good on ya Johnno,

Timothy was doing everything man, which is why I remembered the article. I remember thinking if he was scared of it, it must be some seriously mind-bending stuff. Next thought was, "How do I get some".

I'll get back to you tomorrow.

anyone see that documentary made on the last days of his life? jeez, that guy was far gone. i used to read his writing and listen to his recordings and he was a fairly lucid fellow in his early days, but let's just say after hearing him ramble about 'space particles' and 'all the conspiracies' i had to vow never to touch lsd. gimme william s burroughs and the sharpness a life of carefully controlled morphine gives you. now there's a man to admire... :D

the flow is at the center and this is why it happens ...it's really much more positivity than the rock - and a pulse that listens with beauty .

A favorite bit of Hot Generation has B McT & Russell Hughes (I think) surfing.
The very ABC/BBC Narrator says above the psychedelic sound track:
"Bob and Russell are turning on"

I checked back on that article and Mr Leary was a big user and advocate of DMT. Snakes was right. It was William S. Burroughs who apparently took it once and warned Timothy never to try it, which was like waving a red rag to a bull.

Mr Burroughs, according to the article, never took DMT again.

No, I didn't find any Johnno. Had a great plan as well that involved meditation, quiet atmosphere, and 2 friends from my cult days, 1 to be a fellow traveller, the other because he is an ambulance man and thought it might be useful to have him around.

Mr Leary was certainly the archetypal burnt out shell of a man at his end. Had that look of a walking cadaver. Interesting mind though. Some weird sh*te must have gone through his mind.

Timothy Leary, William Burroughs  What about Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters?
These guys didn't surf. I guess they were looking for something as good as surfing is.
