I've heard the opinion that Smoothstars actually teach more bad habits than actually helping technique. I've ridden one a lot and have actually found that I'm often too front footed my top turns when surfing (this could be purely coincidental as I'm quite the klutz but it immediately came to mind), but on the flip side, Streetboardz are considered the best option for polishing that turning stance as it forces you to do it properly or you struggle to stay on. Haven't ridden a Streetboardz board and this opinion did not come from anyone affiliated with either product.
Anyone have a view on this?

Interesting. I've heard Carver are the best. Anything with sidewinder trucks works great I reckon.

You surfing fishes or maybe boards with thick tails?

Not really Davros. Pretty standard shortboards.
Haven't ridden a Carver either.

I walk through a nearby skate park sometimes. I'm normally reminded of the question, has anybody ever seen a park skateboarder actually land a trick? Not very often, I can tell you. But I admire their perserverence.
But I actually saw something landed, and it was awesome!

Similar to above, a bloke taking a high line laterally around the bowl. While moving across the highest part of the bowl, he did a perfect kickflip. Smooth as silk while maintaining his high line.
There were quiet gasps from the onlookers, including from me.

Highlining around the bowl hitting the tiles and trying to get a grind happening is about all I'm game to do these days. Concrete is no joke.

Lots of young 7yrs+ (and some older generation 50yes+) skaters tear the bowl up pretty fiercely at Cronulla. Lots of big grinds and airs going down. Fair few of the street-skate oriented crew also pulling off all manner of crazy technical stuff in the bowl.

all these young pros never wear pads or helmets. my mate, in his early 40s, still skates but pads up and fark me he is feeling every fall
these days. he reckons the young guys wont have any longevity like all the bones guys ,as they are always padded up, the young guys get smashed
up like badges of honor.....little do they realise they be full of arthritis and scar tissue by 50....

Found the Bateau Bay skate park up on the Central Coast a few months back. Biggest set up I've ever seen, two different bowls, 1 was close to 15 foot deep.

I wish councils had that money to spare when i was a kid.
