Some pretty big scores for horizontal surfing and turns half way up the face on the end section. When they run the heats consecutively like this, the gulf between the men and women is enormous. I’ll be interested to see longtom’s take on it.

I thought it was a great wave and well surfed. But I won't lie, I did wish for a moment we got to see what JJF could have done on that same wave.

Watching the back half of the slater qf just about finished me off. Turpel sticking to the fantasy line of 5 Bells, numbers man, legendary strategist, only needs a 9 and refusing to acknowledge the reality of Slater fiddling into irrelevance up at Rincon while his fearsome competitive reputation burned and burned. A lifetime achievement note is front and centre in all interviews with and about him and apart from Joe there don’t seem to be any true believers remaining. Even Pottz roused himself to have a dig or two. Be interesting to see how long slater can tolerate the indignity. Nice to see that JJF won though
