The helicopter came over us in Ballina, around Christmas/New years time, yelling Great White Shark repeatedly through a megaphone in a hysterical voice.Nick Carroll wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 3:22 pmI'll guarantee they do not do that over a public address system or any kind of media that might be heard by people they don't know.steve shearer wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 11:51 amReally?
My local lifeguards have no hesitation whatsoever in using that word.
I've never heard them once refer to a shark alarm, or sighting as a "wildlife" or animal spotted.
They call it a shark with no hesitation.
They have a manual and shit that tells you how to deal with it in public.
Turned out to be a bull anyway.

Re: Bells Beach
I thought he ended up on the rocks at high tide and a rising swell and couldn't get back up.
Re: Bells Beach

Re: Bells Beach
Well they're not here.
Scary seaweed yes, sharks no.
What's here is some barely concealed resentment from the men pros about the equal pay thing for the women. Boys are not super thrilled about it. "Ha ha why don't they send 'em out on Friday?" was the call from a few of 'em over the past day or so. (Friday is when the apparent semi mega swell is forecast to march forth along with ripping winds etc). "Equal pay, equal work!"
The schedule being bandied about by KP and co went like this: girls all Thursday in smaller yet flawless surf, boys Friday and Sat morning in large to huge chaotic surf Fri dropping to solid yet flawless Sat.
Well guess what, today that schedule is been re-bandied as girls and boys back and forth all three days. Panic in the fcuken streets. Who's got guns?? I have a 6'9" 10-channel singly but thank god no professional surfer will want to ride that.
But it's all bit in the realm of fiction right now, I'm gonna go surf Rincon and I'll be shocked if it's 3'.

I've got a new unwaxed 6'6" Desert Storm and a new just waxed 7'3" Aleutian Juice Hawaiian style 2+1 sitting right here.
Damn, I'd love to get them wet down there on this swell.

Re: Bells Beach
I've got a few boards other than the big thing, couple of new revees from Maurice, but nothing else really girthy enough for anything beyond 6-8'.
There's no real Vibe about this swell though, maybe because the drag of waiting has crushed the attendees' spirits. This morning felt like the bottom of some WSL J-curve. At 6.45am, the event site was almost completely abandoned. The pop up stalls were shuttered. A sign blinked, saying: "Pray for surf!" Security guys huddled under their jackets while a thin grey rain fell from a luke-warm sky. If it wasn't for Mikey Wright and Troy Brooks kicking a mini-Steeden around the Winki carpark, you'd have thought the Zombie Apocalypse had passed through overnight.
Mikey was almost seriously considering a surf, even though Bells was as small as I've ever seen it. I thought it was a good sign, him being there when nobody else had showed. I'd place a small wager on him if that was what I did. I would also consider a wager on Jordy Smith, John John, and Kolohe, v much Kolohe. I would perhaps lay off any bets I'd made on the big gun Brazilian trio.

The photos are really deceiving....in the flesh it feels really much lighter, finer foiled and high performance than it looks in the images.
God, it would decimate the Bells Bowl.
