Of course it’s better. That was surely never up for discussion. But, for the hundredth time, nobody is watching. Steve followed the numbers and they were risibly low. Lower even than when Swellnet did it a few years ago. So unless someone has a compelling solution for eliminating lulls and explaining the vagaries of the scoring to the great unwashed, I think we can all agree that ocean contests will not be the catalyst for audience growth. Yes, they will lose their core audience, but on the numbers steve threw up, the core audience isn’t worth shit anyway.

To tell the truth eggs are one thing I avoid buying when I’m grocery shopping. So you may say I’m an intermittent egg buyer who usually lets someone else buy them.

Those numbers were for the Australian region but other regions were also risibly low and even added together it's a pissant audience.

So how are we all going re the Pool Benchmark? Like where is J-Bay in comparison?
Pool benchmark?

Since when is the pool a benchmark?

I think you've got the cart before the horse.....it's the sports management brass at WSL who should be asking how the pool shapes up to Bay.

This is why this will struggle on tv to a non surfing audience.

15 mins in and 2 waves ridden.

Edit. 3rd wave ridden.

I assume the forecast isn’t too good? I always cry when I see them run the finals in a dying swell.
Re the viewer numbers and having not seen Shearer’s post. Surely the WSL have screwed the pooch by going exclusively through FB? I’m on the “rest of the world” option and each time I’ve tuned in there are less than 15000 people watching.
@SS is that just local or worldwide? I assume that it’s worldwide because it’s FB but happy to be corrected. Whatever it is, it’s a long way from being viable.

@ Thud. I’ve got a couple of JR’s only because I thought I’d go with a local shaper. Didn’t understand how good his boards are.

griffin colapinto's a cool cat. he's in the commentary booth now with ronnie blakey and peter mel and when ronnie asked him what his goals for this year are he said "to have a lot of fun and get in the top six". i bet he talks about 13' surf too.

throw julian and jordy to the shark! that way we can appease the gods and stop all the fans complaining about how they've toned down their radical surfing for the judges and get on with the contest.
