no need for malaria meds is there?
i've taken the prevent meds, and I've had malaria.

from my experience, the prevent meds were worse than the actual malaria. i was nauseous, dizzy and felt like i had a defcon 5 hangover from the meds. i didn't feel like surfing at all.

with malaria; about a month after i got back home from west java i got properly ill – splitting headache, lethargy, fever etc ... and they did blood tests and i was positive.

but shit. the H1N2 flu virus i got in tassie made malaria look like a little sneezing fit. malaria lasted not even a week i don't think, the H1N2 lasted 3 months and i had moments where i would have shot myself in the head if i had a 9mm handy.

thats what I thought....my brother texted me today and asked about the meds and I said no, the side effects were too gnarly.

My Dad caught Malaria during WW2 in New Guinea or Sarawak.
For the rest of his life he suffered recurrences every couple of years.

yeah WW2 being the operative word here. modern meds after you contract malaria and get them into you as the first symptoms appear, kill it dead, no repeats or lapses.

yep.

I reckon there'll be enough smoke from the Gudam Gurangs I'll be chain smoking to keep them away.

Air Asia via KL to Padang would be a lot less than that

Shit flight times though

If I'm not mistaken, Air Asia also charges for boards ... and anything else you require during a flight.

The lengthy layovers at KL are a killer too.

they screw you for boards....there's a special advertised for free surfboards...but the fine print is only one board allowed.
