my God, I surfed the 10 channel this arvo after the contest. The surf was, like pumping doesn't even do it justice. That board is fcuking crazy, it absolutely flies, it's like snowboarding, even though I've never snowboarded, I am just sort of imagining it. Like relaxing between turns, setting the board in, then applying just a bit of extended pressure and feeling the board just take off. Quite different feeling to a six channel thruster which goes fast, sure, but is closer to a normal board. The 10 is abnormal. Relaxing at high speed and feeling so much water running under it, I dunno if there is a better feeling in surfing.

Nick, are you reconsidering JBay's spot in the surfing pantheon?

It is a great surf spot but its great filming days were back in 1978 (see "Fantasea" by Greg Huglin with Fitzy and a cast of 20 or so doing all those fades and soul arches to barrels they did back then)
Compared with, err, Desert Point, G-Land, Rifles, Telescopes, Macaronis/Greenbush/E-Bay, NoKandui blah blah blah into infinity, why would ya go somewhere cold, inconsistent and crowded with a very solid local crew, a down-the-line racecourse and the odd barrel on the right day?

jbay is the best point in the world, you gotta have that onboard!
Re: J-Bay Pro 2017
de Souza & Duru. Opening exchange. Bloody good!
I think that has upped the standard of the day's expectation of what will get high scores.

Has there been a surfer that looks more in control than Mick Fanning? It's almost a tad boring.

Like it's still not that "modern" of a wave but whoa.

Lennox holds bigger, is more hollow when the sand is right but is more variable and has a general slower overall tempo than j-bay.

Re: J-Bay Pro 2017
I still vividly remember a story in a surf mag many moons ago about some epic swell lighting up your coast. Kirra (I think) was spitting 'fist-size gobs of sand', other breaks (Burleigh? D'bah?) were also off their tits. Pretty sure I recall some reference to dear old Lenny the Ox even doing its thing, like it was some backward country cousin not noted for its sparkle. I may be remembering wrongly, of course. It was a long time agosteve shearer wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2017 4:39 pmLennox holds bigger, is more hollow when the sand is right but is more variable and has a general slower overall tempo than j-bay.

How many 6-8ft and above days a year at Lennox compared to JBay? I'd take JBay anyday.

Oh Lennox is far more consistent that J-Bay, thats night and day.
J-Bay breaks wide in the bay when it's over 6ft....you can see that today on some waves.

Re: J-Bay Pro 2017
To find a better big wave Pointbreak than Lennox you have go to Madeira and Jardim Do Mar....but that has been compromised by a seawall.
