you're not joking, beanpole? i'm pretty serious about this. i know it sounds like a joke, but it's true. i was thinking a lot of us probably lost interest and didn't bother looking more closely at what went on in this contest, which was some amazing surfing in great waves - if you had the patience to wait for it. i don't care about the long intervals between good things, it's like slow food - good!

i'll be sad if they make the contests one-day or two-day events. what do we want - no more boredom, frustration or exasperation in surfing? i think that's crazy.

I dunno Al, I had a pretty close look at the final day, as close as you can through the webcast. I thought bar a few Wilko moments the surfing was well below par for a final day. Probably because of round three's complete seed eviction. In waves like that it shoulda taken an 18-plus to win, like double nines.
