I was listening to the Jed Smith/Vaughan Blakey podcast 'Ain't that swell' a while back. There was a longish section answering a listener's question about localism. Covered a few points including Vaughan's conversations with George Greenough about not having sharp pointed boards.
On my browser, the podcast timer thingy isn't working poorly. Hard to be precise. But, I think it you go about 1:18:10 the localism convo will start soon. After 6 or 7 minutes, Lennox is mentioned.

It's funny though, I was talking to one of the most feared locals the other day - a bloke who has been known to punch on, and has the skills to do so- and he said to me : "mate I'm a fcuking mirror; if they bring good manners and smiles, thats exactly what they get back. They bring fcuking shitt behaviour out here, then look-out".
After considering that remark, I honestly believe it to be true in the vast majority of cases.

the "problem" here, if there is one, and there ain't; is that a car load of guys drives down from the Goldy after surfing Snapper, or flies up here from Sydney and paddle out and carry on as if it's a free for all, with zero consideration for other people in the water. They quickly learn it doesn't work like that. For most people, that ends up working very well.
