Yeah, had a few texts to him last night, seems okay. He was lucky someone was watching, everyone else was watching the approaching set. That's a positive tick for the jetski circus.buddy wrote:So the young lad was Russell Bierke?

Whoosh! out of the park. I was hoping to a: pick up a few things I hadn't seen on the webby, and b: get a sense of what it felt like to be there, the mood, the light, etc etc.Nick Carroll wrote:http://2.bells.surfline.comsteve shearer wrote:well where is it? Nick Carroll, writing the mythology of surfing into existence right here and now!

Re: Bells Beach
One thing left unanswered for me.
I know what I think and feel, what Crabmeat thinks and feels, what Carroll thinks and feels after the best aussie leg ever.
What I'd like to know is what CEO Dirk Ziff thinks and feels about it.

Re: Bells Beach
Dirk is somewhere wearing an immaculately pressed, light tan and white cotton pants (rolled up from the ankle) and shirt ensemble and sipping a caipirinha, while his wife, wearing designer short shorts, and showing off her fabulously tanned and taught legs, picks up droppings from their careless, but nevertheless pedigree Pekinese.
Which I might add, they illegally flew into australia via their private jet.
That's how i imagine dirk to feel about it all.

I liked the article, Nick, but it just seems to stop suddenly?

So that's what happens when they let surf journos loiter around contests. Great read.

It's just me deliberately avoiding the cliche souped up ending paragraph.alakaboo wrote:I liked the article, Nick, but it just seems to stop suddenly?

Plus it's cool just to finish sharp like that, on Jordy's simplest response to his win.
If it jars the reader a bit, makes he/she go back into the piece, so much the better.

The magnificently enigmatic Dave Prodan promised me an audience with CEO Dirk Ziff, however it is yet to materialise, possibly because I am barely ever in the same place at the same time as any billionaires, I mean look at me for fcuk's sake.
But I have hopes. By all accounts he's a nice man, very sharp and intellectually curious etc etc, then again, if somebody's giving you millions of dollars a year to play in a sandbox, you're hardly gonna bag him out are you.

I wish. I was thinking of changing my name to Dogmeat Bristow, but that'd just be weird.Legion wrote:Nick Carrol, did Führer TargG change your name on the article credit with his moderator powers?
