Hi folks,
Never been to the Sunshine Coast. How does it rate in terms of reliable swell, swell size, variety of breaks (beachies, points, reefs, lefts, rights)? And how does it compare to say the Goldy, NSW north coast, NSW south coast?
Cheers

Shit, on all fronts.
Re: Sunshine Coast
Good on beaches, points, reefs.
But need swell for them to break, which is rare.
Good place to get a tan.

Re: Sunshine Coast
It gets very quiet during winter. The primarily southern winter swells are blocked. The rest of the year, if you drive a bit, most of the time it is not too hard to find a shoulder-high, just passable, beach break somewhere. The points tend to be slow and crowded. Small waves. If it gets overhead, that is a big wave day.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Re: Sunshine Coast
Wow. Didn't realise it was that bad, although wasn't expecting it to match conditions further south.

Re: Sunshine Coast
As mentioned the big bummer is it gets zero south swell. First the south swells get castrated by Cape Byron, then further depleted by straddie, Moreton, and bribie. From say Coolum north you start get a little sniff of any leftover south swell, but it mostly pissweak and shithouse by the time it's made it that far. Winter will drive you mad. You'll need a log and be happy to surf ripples, hopefully fanned by an offshore westerly.
East coast lows, trade swells, and cyclone swells deliver good options, but it's seasonal and all year round it's a pretty inconsistent coastline for surf. But it's still a much nicer place to live than the Gold Coast in my opinion.
