Couldn't find a thread dedictated to this overdue cause so best to create one then.

Document your surfing injuries here with full commentary and gore as it happens.

Very tame effort on my part to get things started.

Sea Urchin Molestations from Walking Out / Rocking Off. No other injury to self or board sustained, aside from some slight cuts and some ankle scrapes. Fun session was had.

Does getting your earhole rebored from surfers ear count?
Twisted ankle one time that had me bailed up for a couple of weeks.
Fin in the kneecap.

Currently healing, courtesy of a Maldivian reef. Got cheese grated, hurt like a hot iron and bled a lot

Split my lip on a hollow beachie when my 6x66 fish smacked me in the mouth. Drove to hospital, thankfully mid winter so didn't feel much. Could almost put my toungue through the hole. Few stitches. When I shave the scar is still there.

Kicked a keel fin out of a little 5'7". More stitches

You've got lovely chubby legs, The Mighty Sunbird.

I've got a nice scar on my back from when I landed on a fin 25 years ago but that's about it

oh ha ha, I dunno if I can remember them all
total of 62 head/facial stitches so far, including a board just under the right eye from a legrope spring-back, two or three board to the head incidents, and a full face contact with the reef at off the wall which accounted for 28 of 'em, at least two related concussion injuries
broken right tibia, fibula, medial malleolus (the inside ankle bone) and total rupture of the syndesmosis sheath, surgical re-set of the bones including pins plus a temporary bone pin for the syndesmosis
bone deep cut through the right calf from a fin, 45 stitches including 30 internal
chronic overuse injury to the right knee, osteoarthritis etc etc, had one arthroscopic clean out so far, more to come no doubt
deep reef gouge injury to the left thigh thanks to the surgeon's table at Lance's Right, it got better really fast but still a v visible scar
very deep cut right through the hard skin of the left heel and up into the flesh from a mussel shell, only six stitches but man! it was like being stabbed with a sharp knife, so deep
it just goes on and on.

"the surgeon's table at Lance's Right"

Horrible patch of reef. Remember taking off deeper than I should've, got sucked up the face and ragdolled inside the barrel then spat out on to the surgeons table. legrope got tangled around a reef boil, and had to wear three sets of double overhead waves on the head in water a little over knee deep before I finally freed myself. Made me feel very thankful I packed some booties. Lucky I wasn't "playing it cool" like most of the others on the boat trip that thought they were "too core for booties".

I wear them almost all the time these days.
Peripheral neuropathy means less sensory feeling in my toes and balls of my feet but greatly intensified pain.
They provide a measure of insulation.
In any case, they took me about a half hour to adapt to. No problem.
And I save on wax.

Oh I hate them too. But I'm in the market for a pair. At the moment all I have are these clumsy too-high pair of okespors I got in France in '91

Anyone recommend a pair of booties that feel "invisible" ?

Completely destroyed ligaments after landing in 2ft of water in a floater
gone wrong. Carried from water and driven to hospital , Crutches for weeks then about 9months till 100%
Fin almost completely through flesh under bottomlip. Heap of stitches and permanent light scar.
Tore my ass cheek open after landing on dry reef on the inside brain coral at boulders Samoa. Was pretty farked up,
Bad bruising and huge cuts got infected was pretty sick
Dragged entire length of reef underwater being slammed into the bottom at cloud9 maxing at 2-3 times overhead.
Bad rib damage, with huge tiger paw and blood everywhere. First day into 3week trip. Out of water for
Week, but ribs hurt entire trip away. Got light scarring
Head dragged on bottom few times over years with skin taken off forehead.
Fingers put through the cheese grater at speedies gland.
Lots of strains and sprains over the years as well .
If I start listing snowboarding injuries I'm gunna need a longer page! One of which has lead to close to 4.5yrs out of water
