JJF aside, most of the surfers were riding the wrong equipment today. Its like peer group pressure reigns supreme. Fashion over function.

Or conversely......John John was the only surfer with the equipment and skill to surf the wave properly.

steve always talks about crime and punishment and raskolnikov. common sense says this means he's planning a murder.

here's my top 5 list of potential steve shearer murder victims:

1. shane herring
2. george greenough
3. alby falzon
4. derek hynd
5. nick carroll

Rides an AB.
How can you go past Tony Abbott?

Saw him at Ti Trees a couple of years ago. It was 1" and at its most chaotic, full of the clueless, sun-loving hordes that area can attract. A gorgeous late autumn day though, so I took the missus there for a swim. We had only just set down towels when the former PM stomped past, his familiar gait intact despite the carriage of an enormous surfboard. He had a portly mate with him, unknown to us, wearing an old wetsuit and carrying similar craft. Both their boards and wetsuits had that look of a being stored for a long time in a dusky back shed.

With little else to do, I watched them keenly. Abbott's mate would struggle to his feet on a wave, often dropping in on someone, and then call Abbott onto the wave. Abbott would paddle hard, a long way out on the shoulder, and then ride the unbroken wave outside his mate. His surfing style resembled a statue, feet firmly anchored and body frozen in a quite unnatural pose. Actually, it would be difficult to call what Abbott was doing 'surfing', though it's true to say he was using the wave's energy to propel himself toward the beach. At some point, his board would lose its connection with the energy of the wave and his momentum would slow. His pose would remain unchanged until the point the board actually stopped, at which point he would look a bit surprised and reluctantly dismount it, feet first into the water.

That morning on the beach was much more enjoyable than I thought it would be. The missus didn't really appreciate it though and preferred to read her book.
