Is there a Californian wave suited to a CT event.

Agree with the surf spot suitability appraisal.

I definitely think they should trial Lennox Head point as a stop on the tour. Perfect infrastructure for it

Oh yeah! Quite a few. Mostly winter spots. But I would only be calling them on the basis of wave quality, not any of the other factors. Like Rincon is totally CT surfable but it wouldn't be acceptable to the area's surfing population.

They may as well go back to Puerto with "la Jolla" as a back up since it's now fully exposed.

I agree with the assessment of the locations against the WSL scoring criteria. But what's interesting is that not all the locations considered to meet the criteria, are the best viewing IMHO.

You need the dreamy or critical waves first, then the competition is the icing on the cake to make it worthwhile viewing.

I'm surprised they don't go back to GLand. The one in the 90's was awesome.

salty I am afraid you will have to go back a page or so and read through the whole shtick

but v briefly, beach breaks fit the heat needs (30mins, two excellent rides, opponent has half the priority time) and CT judging (vertical carves, close to the lip surfing, barrels, airs), and thus tend to be completely surfed, whereas JBay doesn't entirely cater to 'em (too long and lateral), and thus tends to be under-surfed (one section only, connection sacrificed for a move). Though as mentioned the free-surfing sessions at good Jeffreys are crazy, and some of the heats are usually off the chart.

But what do the viewers want to see? Personally, a speed run by a super talent to set up a couple of turns or a tube is way better than 50 vertical snaps.

yeah, it's funny, the pros still all namecheck Curren as the guy who set the template of how to surf j-bay but very rarely do they attempt the same lines.
I wonder what judges would do if they saw Curren surfing like Curren out there........oh wait.

yeah no kidding.

I know everyone is brilliant these days, the women are still on the rise, but it does feel to me like the men have kinda peaked, like the greatest surfing we are likely to see in that arena has already been done.

It's probably just age.

Look I know people don't like watching that event, I don't either, but guys regularly surf 17 to 19 point heats there and there's always a 10 or two, this tells you it fits the machinery if not the visual appeal.

They surf the wave to its WSL scoring potential. I'm not sure that confirms the wave matches nicely with the WSL scoring criteria.
