So's Dirk Ziff. Oh shit! pretend I never said that

Goddam "storylines". Why are we so trained to look for them, then follow them in such Mills and Boony fashion? We don't know what happened to O in Hawaii in Dec 2015, Wilko didn't know even though he's the one who got the wheels rolling to hospital, even O doesn't seem to know. Is this a comeback or has it been more a case of Boy, Interrupted?

Now both surfers are in the lineup and the storyline has fcuk all to do with what happens, but it will be the storyline nonetheless. Irresistible.

Pity Steves prophecy has come true. Waves are diabolical now.

I'm on the beach and this one of the most boring heats I've watched ever.

How about this for a headline

"The day the WSL finally died: The Owen Wright comeback story"

My god everything about this event was anti sport. The global coverage reeked of a saccharine love in where the winner gets to eat Owens soggy Sao. Somebody please reanimate Andy Irons so a couple of brawlers can go toe to toe again and we can vicariously experience a clash of true Titans. Maybe, unconsciously, professional surfing went softly into the night with Andy Irons, the rage has gone. I need a cuddle.

Yep. Dad power overcame the former wild child of the tour in shitty, onshore waves.

I think Parko being shut down in the barrel was the demise. Legal I know....and good gamesmanship but I would have liked to see him demolish that wave.

What's with the bodyguard escort to from water? Is that really necessary on an Australian beach? Looks like nobody in the crowd really gives two shits about the vast majority of competitors apart from a high five but I can see the picked the biggest tatted up boofhead to escort Slater to and from?

yes the bodyguards are necessary.

ask yourselves: has anybody coherently explained what happened to Owen in December 2015? I haven't got into this yet but it fascinates me. What is it he has actually recovered from?

Isn't it concussion/brain injury from being belted on the Pipe reef?
