The long range weather forecast beyond Easter (while still a long ways off and prolly subject to change) looks like I'll be rolling in at the beginning throws of the wet season, calling for a chance of afternoon thunderstorms over a number of days and slightly cooler temperatures. Is that generally a good or bad thing for the wind and swell?
Yes

Kookhairbrain is starting to get a little bit annoying.

Well I arrive the morning of the 18th... It's a long way off but looks like the weather, winds and humidity may immediately turn less ideal the day after I arrive... I guess I shouldn't put much stock in forecasts beyond a week though... still bit of a bummer to see that.

Let us know how it goes.
My son and his cousin are going to Nicaragua in June.

The surf was ok, warm water was a treat but the surf wasn't anything better than Vancouver Island while I was there; likely because I missed the good winds which shifted the day after I got there, and almost every day around 8:30 strong onshore winds would begin and not let up until the sun went down. glassy or offshore every morning if you were out around first light/sunrise (and lots of people were as the popular breaks were crowded by 6am most days) I had some good waves and fun surf on the days where the tides were ideal for the glassy/offshore mornings. I guess Nov-mid April is a good time to go for consistent offshore winds?

Yep consistent offshores and light winds when I was there 20 years ago in November December on the Pacific coast. and scored sunny weather overhead plus light winds on the relatively fickle and notoriously wet (but funky and groovy) Caribbean side. Sometimes you get lucky.

That's a pretty good trip. Playa Negra and Nosara were my favourites out of those spots.
Sorry huey didn't cooperate this time.
