Seaside Oregon to Santa Barbara in September?
Hello,
I surf mainly on Vancouver Island; I did a trip down the Washington/Northern Oregon coast last September. Had fun waves at La Push and Oswald State Park!
I'm considering resuming the journey south again where I left off this September and would go at least as far as Santa Cruz, potentially as far as Santa Barbara...
Are there some "must visit" places, or areas I should spend more time in than others, aside from the Santa Cruz area of course... and areas I should skip?
I am a bit concerned about sharks as I hear central California - central Oregon is considered thick shark territory and August - October is considered peak shark season on the west coast... I also hear localism in central California can be rough; I am a pretty good surfer and show respect for others in the water so long as I receive the same courtesy..

don't let sharks stop you from having a good time.
did you know there's more chance your dentist is a left-handed hermaphrodite, than getting attacked by a shark in oregon?

Hey Kulharin'
I seem to remember some of our members have been along that part of the coast. If they have, they'll give you what info they have.
Just ignore the smartarsed comments you might get from some of the others.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

I've driven from Marin county to the US- Mexico border.
Santa Barbara region had some fun looking waves. Wouldn't get me in the water around SF, but further south around Big Sur looked good.

Tread carefully in Seaside mate, may be the best point out in the Americas and as you would expect fiercely protected. Right time to go.

Re: Seaside Oregon to Santa Barbara in September?
I was at Seaside last September for a couple days, but it had howling northwest winds so that point would have been blown out I imagine... I know how to get to it but didn't bother with the walk. I don't drop in or snake people, so if somebody is going to get bitter with me just for being there I'll just ignore them and surf, if they drop in on me I'll try to grab their ass.
I surfed Oswald State Park and had some great surf there, that's as far south as I had surfed on the Oregon coast... If I picked up from where I left off, should I try to make haste to Santa Cruz or spend additional time doddling along the way? Are there some "must visit places" for surf and/or scenery along the Oregon/North California Surf.
I am also told Santa Barbara isn't likely to have much surf in September, so perhaps Point Misconception area would be the most southern leg of the trip?
I ride a 7'8 with a quad fin and rounded diamond tail, performance funboard shape; also have my 6'6 that I use for faster, steeper waves if the paddle distance isn't ridiculous.

I have a mate who's lived in Santa Cruz for years. It's ridiculous how much good surf they get. Cold but constant.
I'd make damn sure to spend a large portion of time there.
