Yes, an "ie" ending on an occupation title is generally condescending. Some retaliation can of course be gained by calling accountants bean counters, or by adding "boy" to the end of an occupation such as flyboy for airline pilot.

I still don't buy the "official" narrative about 9/11. Oh sure, it happened, fcuk yeah. But who and why and how I'm, not convinced it was what we've been told.

Yeah, it was probably my annoyance at my dad using it as a derogatory term lead me to use it that way. It obviously annoyed the crap out of hachie so it did work some magic,

To tired to go into it any further as one of those 15 second swells that hachie loves popped up and was forced to surf a well known point break with 2 others, unfortunately I knew them so I had to take turns

Didn't annoy me in the slightest Shaun. Just keen to see you articulate the definition and differences of both.

I'd say its similar in kind to bikers and bikies. The old guys are correct in stating that the terminology has changed over the years. A bit like how waves are measured in this crazy postmodern age ... or was that postmortem, I always seem to get that juan wrong ... or was that yuan wong.
The moving finger writes and having writ moves on ... now all thy piety nor wit shall lure it back to cancel even half a line ... nor all thy tears wash out a single word of it.

What about the use of 'waterman' that seemed popular a few years back. Was a 'waterman' a surfer or surfie or just a water boy who grew up?

Just realised they call the SUP world tour the Waterman League! Maybe the WSL should rebrand to the Surfie League.
