Cynical bastards.
This is all just one small way the GOAT is giving back to surfing.
For a modest fee.

Look I totally trust their response to the KSWC pool, they've seen it and ridden it. It's a big deal to a lot of 'em specially the current pros who probably see blue sky ahead for the first time in a while. For guys like Hemmings, Ian Cairns etc, to be invited to something like that, they're over the moon, they feel part of the elite again, it's fantastic for them.

well yeah except if you give 45 years of a fcuk about surfing, then you're stuck with it. You have no choice.

So you'll happily enrich any number of faceless corporations in your quest to tap into the source, just not the ones owned or operated by people who do actually surf, who may be your friends or acquaintances?

Smacks to me of muddle-headed grandstanding for cheap social media likes
yeah but actually it's a long term passion thing, what I grew up with and still cherish, so you know, go fcuk yourself.

You've lost me. Truly. Is it a feeling of being left behind? Of no longer having the same relevance in a world that you have been a pretty key figure in for a goodly portion of those 45 years? What would a 30 year old Nick Carroll think of wavepools, do reckon?

Wave pools are anathema to me too. They just seem the opposite of the surf ideal.

I've been surfing Indonesia and WA for 40 years now. The incredible landscapes and contexts of places like Gnaraloo, the Bluff, Uluwatu, Gragagan, Timor, Lombok and many other places are the complete antithesis of a wavepool. It seems sordid, suburban, restricted, constrained - there's no music to make your soul sing.

And then a big swell hits and and a sort of hyper reality manifests: I'll be just watching, but what a thing to watch. Wave pools?

listen you silly cnut, go back and look at what you accused me of. Muddle headed searching for cheap social media likes. As if I could give a shit about that stuff. You think I don't know my mind about surfing? I am deadly fcuken serious, if you'd said that to my face I'd have had to walk away or slap ya.

I call it as I see it Nick, and if you're unable to argue without descending into cheap insults and playground threats of slaps then I think we're probably done here
