Re: Kelly's wave.
Just saw it. It's not exactly a crap wave is it?. People will for sure pay to surf something like that. Could be a bit bigger though. I mean it breaks perfectly consistent, so with a few waves practise you could ramp it right up.

Good start isn't it.
Can't imagine what effect it will have on surfing in the future. Well I can but I'd rather not.

Re: Kelly's wave.
Imagine a WSL tour in those waves - no waiting periods, live TV broadcasts become viable. And there wont be the spaz outs about the randomness of surfing results - eg 2015 Pipe and the world title

Amazing wave.
Definitely has appeal in some aspects but its not for me and why I surf.

My thought is that in a contest arena it would be much harder to judge. The sameness of the wave would mean most competitors would be pulling the same manoeuvres so the judges would be looking at some pretty fine lines to award points.
But it'd be a great wave to free surf.
Even on my mal.

It looks like Cape St Francis did in the original "The Endless Summer", except with no sharks. Water is a bit brown. Tannin or something else?

Re: Kelly's wave.
That wave looks incredible.
More surfing contests in wave pools means less contests in the ocean, means more waves for recreational surfers.
Will be interesting to find out how much energy is needed to produce a wave and how many per hour.
It would be great if the power supply was thermal solar.

Hey, do you remember the name of that Brazilian guy, he was a really good junior competitor, was top 10 for a decade but had a weakness in heavy waves so he worked on it and showed the most improvement of anyone on tour, then won Pipe and the world title on the same day?
Yeah, me neither.
Yeah, me neither.

It could be argued that was not 'proper' pipe on the last day

yes well, in the scheme of things, ads would go unnoticed anyway as the guy who stole mick's moment.alakaboo wrote:Hey, do you remember the name of that Brazilian guy, he was a really good junior competitor, was top 10 for a decade but had a weakness in heavy waves so he worked on it and showed the most improvement of anyone on tour, then won Pipe and the world title on the same day?

and, yes it'd be naive to think their wasn't some kind of method to kel's brilliance in launching this after the wtc was awarded...irrspective of victor.
deep down, i feel this is not only a surfing game changer, but a geopolitical one

I'd like to put in 500 hours on that. Surf ability would go thru the roof. That would probably exceed my whole life ride time to date.

Re: Kelly's wave.
looks like a great wave for fine tuning your surfing. But on the other hand it also looks like the one of easiest waves in the world to surf. It's so surreal, that it looks more like cross training than it does surfing.

Re: Kelly's wave.
I flicked the footage to a non surfing mate who suggested the wave would get so boring they should truck in sand to change it up a bit, like moving a golf hole on the green.
Re: Kelly's wave.
We all would love to surf it. But I'm not sure it's ever gonna beat the feeling of jagging one from the inside on a really critical point/reef.
Although I'm sure Ringo would know better.
