Nice boards. Both shapers ride big waves on boards like that. A limited clientele for boards like those I would imagine.
Probably more for someone who rides a mal and would like the same length in a board for more challenging waves. When I used to ride mals more regularly they would have appealed more. Wouldn't spend that much dosh on them though.

Could be fun in Indo......but you would be paying bucks to take them over.

On another tangent......speeeed fins?
How hard are they to find these days?

Aaaaaand here's another one.

Guessing it's a board for people that like riding (or are stuck with riding) big boards but can't "longboard" ?

Bit of a Skip Fry influence by the look. These are all top quality boards. Funny way to do business.

Cuttlefish had a cundith gun like the 9'er. From memory he mentioned it worked well down to head high.

I would ride mine on some of the points when you'll get bigger, wide ones or at Tea tree and Granite or my local point where there's too much sweep for anyone on a short board to do anything but paddle their ring off to stay in position while trying to jag one from the frothing pack.
We also have to contend with longboarders who are using much more foam to crutch their way into ALL the set waves as they pull rotation.
I like set waves so I'm going to use whatever the fuck it takes to even the playing field.
Yeah I'm carrying a 9' gun and Waimea is a long way away but its "My wave Johnson".
Anyway I'm over all the ego bullshit in surfing.
Ride whatever you enjoy or require to enjoy it and don't worry about being a performing seal for the onlookers.
:-o

Plus you can slide into a big open face and not have to do a thousand tight little turns to keep up. Wayne Deane used to ride a board like that regularly when Snapper was maxing out or off the bar at Dbah.
Queenscliff Bombie?

I still have one of these in an 8'er. I surf it as a big, speedy carver.

Fwiw I find it looser than the MC guns.
I'd love to have this 7'2" as well.
Was told the shape came from Al Merrick.

Nice shape but there's a 5c piece stuck to the rail for some reason.

I can't understand why there aren't more longboards around without the paddle pop noses. I reckon they limit the wave range terribly, especially combined with a deep nose concave. 16" pulled in nose would make them much more all round. My old Jackson was super fun but anything steep, that big 18" nose and concave just held it right up on take off.

Well, yeah, the idea is you're supposed to nose ride them you know. Bit of a cop out if you don't intend to. Unless your planning on charging some outside bommie.

See lots of guys on wide nosed longboards in local beach breaks and hardly any of them go near the nose. Not too much tip time in average beachies

Agreed....most of the hypsters on trad mals can't get back if they do get any where near the nose.

Hipsters on trad mals are like short boarders. Most think they're ripping but are actually jerky and not that great. When you see it done right though ( long and short ), it's beautiful to watch. Controversial opinion I know, someone will get upset lol

I reckon if you aren't going to try and nose ride you should get off a mal. Now that's controversial.

You're right, clearly surfing needs rules around such things
