Yea but who the fk wants to surf strictly off the back foot the whole time, which is what his designs are about (90% weight on the BF). Furthermore, it's not like all waves lend themselves well to that approach either.Beanpole wrote:I presume he has his principles down...but it's not my scene.

Say next about the design ??
My take is that they are a good board for the average Joe but even Kelly wouldn't be able to make it onto the pro circuit riding one

A mate of mine loves the Lazor Zap with the boomerang fin. I had a crack on it, took off on 3 waves, handed it back and decided it was one of the worst boards I had ever ridden.
I saw that ad that Iggy posted and thought "Some sucker is going to be pissed off when he has dropped over $400 on that thing."

You have to stick with it for two years.

Two years of crap surfing. I could say the same about my oversized fishcuit. I've had about three of the best waves I've ever had on it...including the fastest.....but it's such a pain in the arse with no rocker that I don't ride it.

Too nice to ride.
I used to have a Butch Cooney Hot Buttered with the full wave spray bottom back in the day.....And a Wayne Deane Hot Buttered with belly channels and textured deck.

My first custom was a HB 5.10 Russell Lewis round tail single with the 4 curved channels. Couldn't afford a spray but it has a multicolour pin line as they used to do.

I'd pay at least $500 to not ever have to ride that

Both my HBs were secondhand. Ended up trading in the Butch Cooney for the same price I paid for it 2 years earlier. Young guy had done the deal when Peter Turner walked in. He'd sold the board to me.

Seriously? I thought it was only hopelessly nostalgic acid casualties and well heeled late life learners trying to buy themselves a slice of cred who think that these retro rehashes are anything but a total disaster. Obviously not
Re: Ebay Bargains thread
wonder how many euros that would set you back.
That wasn't a rehash though was it?
Ruh roh, scrolling back, foam looks too white to be original.
Don't tell me TF is shilling this modern day retro thievery.
Re: Ebay Bargains thread
LBS has an unsurfed TF Drifta replica that I was looking at. RRP $1699, asking $950.
I had two of these, customs, a 6'4 and a 6'8 that I took to Gland in 1983. I asked TF for a board good for 10'. That was in the days when I could surf. I caught the biggest and best waves I've ever had on the 6'8.
From memory my board and the replica differed in some details: mine was a rounded square with rounded rails and moderately sized half moon side find, the replica was a double flyer swallow with square rails and smallish traditional shaped sides, but otherwise the same.
The replica had a shallow single into double concave. I was not aware enough to even know whether mine had that bottom shape but thought not as it was too early for concaves. Turns out I was wrong, TF was doing that in 1983 ffs.
The replica still seemed completely relevant today. I half-heartedly negotiated on it, but it was a fairly light poly and I didnt want to pay anywhere near $950 for a board that would have pressure dings all over the deck after a few weeks.
