Only good for display, not for use, based on that glue back together job across the centre.

I know a few blokes that were old school surf industry types that were drug dealers on the side or it may have been the other way around, any way they had sheds full of boards as it was a good way to clean black money, it's a hobby so you don't pay tax when you sell.

oh yes imagine the huge amount of money you can launder through board collecting

there's about a dozen really serious board collectors in the world, by that I mean people who have collections you could value at a million bucks. Mostly they are in the USA.

everyone else is paying $1500 to $4000 for second hand things of dubious provenance that they'll never be able to sell. You'd be battling to find $100,000 worth of "collectable" boards available for sale in the whole of Australia.

If I was a collector of old boards, and I am not, I would also want to take them out for a ride. Similar sort of thing to being a classic car collector. What's the point if you just leave your classic car in a garage and never enjoy the pleasure of driving it?

That ebay board looks like it would snap into two pieces as soon as I tried a bottom turn on my first wave.

I'd have to agree with Nick. There are far superior ways to launder money than shitty old boards. As an insight, those low tier property developers who like very expensive black European cars who don't seem to need to borrow any capital for their new block of units comes to mind. When I asked some dumb bunnies what they did for work for a particular developer they told me they were gamblers. They go to the big venues throughout Sydney and the greater west (and sometimes interstate) and load up a machine or buy chips. $9,990 worth to be precise. You see, $10K is the Cash Transaction Reporting Agency limit. So the clubs and casinos don't have to report the transaction. Why would they? The gamblers have a few bets, cover their cost and then cash out - by cheque or EFT of course providing evidence of a legal source of this wealth. We got lucky! Multiply by 10 and you can launder a clean $90K a day. Then go and build those home units as a respectable businessman. Hell, Mike Baird will probably come along for a photo op and thank you for helping ease the burden of first home buyers. Rinse and repeat

I'm talking guys who were doing it from the early 80's before it became trendy and through the 90's where they had to pay a bit but as long as they made a bit of money on top they were happy. Doing it through some building scam would most likely involve an accountant, not that simple.
The guys I know cashed in most of there boards last decade, they did it with the idea that it was there super, it worked for them, we're not talking millions , just a tidy sum. Probably enough to buy a house back then.

Thats why certain identities cannot enter casinos or racetracks.

And that's why they use a conga line of non-entities like the young blokes I spoke with to do the washing. Pick up todays smh and have a little read of an ongoing investigation into the antics of the property development sector and money laundering in the $100s of millions scale.

6'4 Bear Wombat for two fiddy in maroubra.

It's tufflite but meh. It'll last forever, be super light and quick, and for smallish crowded summer surf it'd be a lot of fun. Catch everything you paddle for. Big single underneath for heaps of drive.
