Dynamite. Isn't there a video somewhere showing the efficacy of TNT?
The best video on YouTube it is.

They should order a heap of chop sticks and soy sauce and divert a bus load of Japanese tourists to the spot, proper job.

It's going to be dug up and removed.
No word as to they're making it a work for the dole initiative.

You could get ten local Steve Shearers for $7 an hour, such a waste of local resources.

Presuming the thing could be 'lit', wouldn't it take a bloody long time to burn? Burning, or removal, would have to be the best option one would think.
With all that blubber it could certainly burn. You could attach some sort of wick to it and turn it into a giant scent candle.

Hey Nick, can you do an article on the whale they are about to bury at kilcunda on the bass coast in Victoria? Right near Powlett.
Stupid councils.

Southern Right washed up on the rocks in Warrnambool a few years ago. Took over a year before it was gone. Shark sightings/interactions still up - surfers and boating fishos. Fisho bloke I know pretty well has stopped surfing. Been seeing too many big whites
